Projected Conference record

I think we need to go 11-7 in conference (with probably 3 or 4 of those wins being over the likes of Nova, Marquette, Gtown, Creighton) to feel reasonably good about our chances of getting into the Dance. The league just isnt very good this year and there arent many "quality wins" left on our schedule to get. We have the most talent in the conference IMO.

In 2012 9 of 16 Big East teams got bids, which led the country by far (Big Ten and Big 12 had six). What makes you think in the first year of a weaker conference that the Big east will get 5 bids?

At the moment this is a 2 bid conference. 3 tops. After the automatic bids, the top-25 and the at-large bids for the ACC, Big 10, PAC 10, there just aren't that many bids left to go around. The BE will get one more bid than the A-10, MVC, etc.

I agree with lawmanfan. Three bids is all the conference can expect. It is what it is. Eleven or twelve wins in the conference isn't going to get it done. That being said, this team could go either way.

If they play 40 minutes a game, they could dominate and win 15+. If they mail it in every once in awhile, we could end up 9-9 and a win against Dartmouth (no guarantee) puts us at around 19-12. Two or three more wins still puts us in the NIT.

If we are pan out like I expect us to, I fully expect us to take the BE tournament and get an automatic come march

I have us going 7-11 in conference (1 game +-) AND I HOPE I AM DEAD WRONG

Give or take one i am sure we will beat at team that was not expected and lose to a team we should of beat (Depaul-Prov)
As mentioned before i hope i am wrong. Our team is VERY VERY inconsistent. I can say we go to NIT but i can also make a case we make sweet 16.
Hopefully it will be sweet 16 so i can finally travel and see us play! (in NCAA tourney)

My guess is that StJohn's enters the Big East Tournament with a record of 8-10 in conference and 18 wins and 13 losses overall.

So you think they will win only 2 road games against arguably the two worst teams in the conference?

I agree with lawmanfan. Three bids is all the conference can expect. It is what it is. Eleven or twelve wins in the conference isn't going to get it done. That being said, this team could go either way.

I strongly disagree. Creighton will be back in the top 25 this week and Xavier will be receiving plenty of votes. Xavier was ranked #34 in the RPI before the win tonight--and before Tenn (played them twice)beat UVA by 25 today--and they have played seven major conference opponents in the OOC schedule, with four wins and an OT loss to top 25 Iowa. .500 in conference makes them a lock.

Butler (#31 RPI before Nova loss) Georgetown (#43 before the win today) would also be in if the season ended today.

11-12 wins would make St. John's the sixth team from the Big east due to a strong RPI and SOS. It is very unlikely this conference gets less than five and almost impossible to get four. The Big East is third highest ranked conference in the country.

based on the way we have been playing I call us a middle of the pack team. The BE doesn't have any world beaters w the possible exception of Nova, but it is a well balanced and deep conference.

I'm pleasantly optimistic.
Jordan makes this a to 20 team.
Don't see us being swept by anyone.
If healthy, can see 13/14 wins.

Maybe I've had too much egg nog, but I'll stay with this pick.
See SJU winning the next 6.
Just too much talent not to gel.
I'll be at the nog before the nova game.
Beers on me if we don't beat G'Town.

Tom, I too am looking hoping for them to run off a few. When you say gel, gel how? I'm starting to think that 40 minutes of mad dog hoops is the only way they can win. About having to much talent, what do they do well?

They defend very well.
Go back to the syracuse game.
They need to play pointer more.
Brings passion an defense.
Man i wish they played harder.

I think it's time to revisit this thread. The sheer optimism that everyone was showing I believe has led to many of us taking these three losses pretty hard.

Agreed. I had us winning 14 conference games, I regress to ten at this point. Sad this team hasn't lived up to expectations from us on the board so far, but a lot of season left to be played, need a win on Tuesday.

Honestly, I see this team at 8-11 wins in conference, maybe 12 now that providence has some issues. They haven't shown they can beat a good team yet. I don't believe Syracuse is #2 caliber team - early rankings often expose pretenders. Hope you are right.

I don't think I am off at all.

Yea,if we get 11 conference wins, do you think we have to win big east tournament to get in, or just do damage?

I don't think we get to 11 wins but, if we do, I can't imagine us not getting in (We may need a win in BET). Our RPI is not that bad, so if we win 12 of 16 (including Dartmouth) I imagine we would be in.

I think if we get to 11 wins, we have to win at the very least one BET game, and 2 to be confident, and 3 to be a lock.
