Projected Conference record

I'm pleasantly optimistic.
Jordan makes this a to 20 team.
Don't see us being swept by anyone.
If healthy, can see 13/14 wins.

Honestly, I see this team at 8-11 wins in conference, maybe 12 now that providence has some issues. They haven't shown they can beat a good team yet. I don't believe Syracuse is #2 caliber team - early rankings often expose pretenders. Hope you are right.

I'm not sure why you brought up Syracuse, being that we didn't beat them but....

if you don't consider Syracuse a legitimate #2 caliber team, what ranking would you place them? I happen to think that point guard play is the most important position in college basketball and Tyler Ennis is playing at an unbelievable level for a Freshman. If not #2, I believe Syracuse is a legitimate top 5 team. I cannot name more than 4 teams that would rank higher than them. Now being that I think point guard play is extremely important at the college level, if Rysheed stays on the court all season - St. John's will be a contender in the Big East and has just as good of a chance as any other to win the title. If any team is not as good as their ranking, it is Villanova. It hurts me to say that as they are carrying the load for the conference thus far.

Syracuse is definitely a top 5 team and Tyler Ennis may be the best PG in college. I would like to see us go 12-6 in the Big East and with a win over Dartmouth we would be 22-9 going into the Big East Tourney.

Our record will somewhat depend on how tough our schedule ultimately is. I think it is difficult to project where the new conference additions (Xavier, Butler and Creighton) will fall within the conference. If they wind up being as tough or tougher teams than Marquette, Georgetown or Villanova then our record will likely not be as good. If they fall closer to Depaul, Seton Hall and Providence we will likely win more games.

That being said if we bring intensity every game and can improve in the half court offense then we will likely wind up near the top of the league. Of course if we don't have that fire every night we can lose to any of the other nine teams in the conference.

The bottom line is we control our own destiny. If St. John's plays like it did in the Fordham game we are going to be tough for anyone in the country to beat. If we play like we did against Longwood then we are not going to beat many teams in the Big East.

I liked what Nova did out of conference but I never believed they were that good. They will come back to earth now. Had the game been in Philly
yesterday against the Cuse it would have been a different story. Cuse is very tough in the Dome. Cuse also has flaws but they are still undefeated
and deserving of number 2 until they suffer their first loss. I expect them to roll through the ACC.
Johnnie's are getting unbelievable play on Fox Sports 1 and they better live up to it now. They are in position to be the top Big East team and
the flag bearer for the conference. Big shoes to fill in this new Big East without the former big-time schools.

I have a feeling Creigton may wind up being the flag bearer. We are just too inconsistent and we blew our chance to beat Cuse when we had them by the throat.

We tend to play with some inconsistency, but what we did (or didn't do) against Syracuse doesn't have any bearing what we do the rest of the way.

It has come to my attention that Creighton travels very well, so I am truly looking forward to the Creighton game at Madison Square Garden. I'm confident in this year's team and the way they are progressing, so it would not surprise me to have Creighton be a new rivalry. I'm interested specifically in the Pointer/McDermitt matchup!!!!! I feel these kids truly feed off of the crowd and it is obvious when playing at the Barclay's center, but with support at the Garden - it's a whole different team.

12-6+ would be great. 11-7 would be good. 10-8 and we would have to make a run in the BE tourny. Im going with 12-6 with a real nice win streak along the way.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I think SJU has the best team in the conference.
The core rotation has shrunk quite a bit lately (7 yesterday) which I like a lot.
I also like the big lineup that he played early on.
Just think Jordan makes us a top 20 team.

I see a lot of optimism these days and I can't blame you guys. The way Jordan has been playing is making everyone excited.

My issue is that we have absolutely 0 marquee wins. Nothing even resembles a solid win for a resume. We need to win 11 and also take 1 in the conference tourney. Assuming we win the last non-conf game against _____(I forget but it's a cupcake), that would give us 22 wins. That will be enough, 21 wins with no quality OOC wins to speak of will be dicey.

Come on Beast, you just picked us to finish anywhere from 3rd-6th. A poster like you can tell us if we gonna be any good or not.

Again we are only 1 win behind where we should be. Who honestly realistically expected Wisconsin and Cuse as W's prior to the year. Even if we beat PSU we still don't have that feature win you speak of. If we win a game in conference we shouldn't like a road game against a top half team that should offset the PSU loss and we are right back to where any sensible fan had us. With 2 non conference losses. Right?

Has anyone had a chance to watch all of the others team in the Big East play this year? I haven't, but wondering how most of them looked or any observations. Based on the optimism in here, I'd assume you guys have seen them and we stack up.

reposting my post from last week with some editing.

We need a split at Xavier and Georgetown, can not start in a 0-2 hole.

Vs. Villanova, I`d say that`s a must win. We need a top15 win, we already lost to Wisconsin and Syracuse.
Plus the first new BE game at the Garden, I want that game. That would be 2-1.

@ DePaul, if we beat Nova I still wouldn`t get satisfied. I`d wait till after this game just to see if they could put the Nova game out of their mind and come correctly @ DePaul. If they could do that then to me that would be a huge step up in becoming a big time school.
3-1

I`d certainly start feeling good at 3-1 and the next 2 games at home vs. Pc and SHU. 5-1

That would be huge with the next 3 being @ Butler and Creighton the home against Marquette who I wouldn`t sleep on

I`ll say 12-6. We have to sweep SHU and DePaul and can`t get swept by anyone, that put us at 11-7.
We`ll need to sweep either Xavier and/or PC and boom we`re 12-6

With the BE held in our house, lets win the tourny. Then make the 2nd week of the NCAA tourny, and I`m ok with that.
Just as long everyone comes back for next year, minus Sanchez (I can`t include GG and Marco, they only eat a few minutes a game).

They HAVE to sweep SH and DePaul. I am thinking 11-7, with potential to win up to 13...14 if they really get rolling, but I think that might be a stretch.

Outside of SH and DePaul every game will be a dog fight. The three newbies are better than expected. Damn, Xavier alone has already beaten 4 teams from major conferences and lost to a top Iowa team after blowing a 13 point lead in the last few minutes. They are 4-3 against major opponents and their two games against Tennessee show exactly why it will be so tough to sweep. They beat Tenn by 5 at home then lost by FIFTEEN on a neutral court.

Sorry Moose, you can't convince me that was not a bad loss. And the way we lost still eating at me. We win 21 and get left out you might see that loss differently.
