Preseason Kick Off Meetup

I’m not a cigar guy but maybe I’ll stop by for a couple beers if I’m able to that night.
Mike - I really like the get together you organized.. Unfortunately I don't smoke and I drink very little. I would definitely be interested in a group getting together at Acquista Trattoria before a game(I would buy Mike Maher's dinner if he showed up to the game at CA after). I also would be open to a meet up before or after a game at MSG.
Free dinner offers !!!! Does that offer come with a cushion and backrest for the benches at carnesseca? Lol

I'm not even a fan but I'm in town this weekend for a family visit and a couple of my aunts and uncles had an extra ticket. Anticipating a lot of special guests for this final show I understand. I imagine one in particular, if they can get on stage together.
my buddy was a tour stage mgr for the other one and has some great stories. One time he was at Art's apartment in NYC and Paul went over there and they were thinking about doing some concerts. They start playing in the apartment and after like 10 minutes Paul stops and yells at Art and says " you sound like crap " and walks out. lol

He said they used to have some monster fights
If you google their conflicts there are some amazingly nasty and childish things they say about each other. The animosity goes all the way back to when they met in middle school.

Garfunkel says something like, I created a monster. Simon was short and had no friends. I was athletic and already making money singing at Bar Mitzvahs and stuff like that. I introduced him to my friends, or he wold have had none. He has a Napoleon complex. Funny stuff if it wasn't so real.

Another story my buddy told me is Art freaked out after a yankee game one day because he went to the game with Simon ( I think he said Art was a Phillies fan or something like that ) but at the game and after people kept on coming up to Simon and noone recognized Art and I think a fan asked him if he was Larry David or something like that. lol

I saw both in concert last year and they couldn't have been different. SImon was in FOREST HILLS, where he grew up, and didn't make one reference to being back home. He voice is completely shot.

Art Garfunkel is the chattiest performer you'd ever want to meet. His voice is on the mend, and he told plenty of stories and even read poems he had written from a book he published. Bridge Over Troubled Water is a challenging song for him at this point, so he sang parts of it. His voice even on the mend, is very good. All in all a warm performance, and you can see how different these two are. He did refer warmly to SImon during his performance.

I heard an interview by Simon. He said Art wanted to act and only wanted to spend part of the year devoted to music. He made a good point when he said he wrote the songs, played guitar and did most of the singing. Not exactly an equal partnership.

For those without Twitter, if you’re in just reply “I’m in”.
Didn't know there was a Matador in Massapequa. I am familiar with the one in Happauge.

I'm in.

How do you go up to Paul Simon after a game, and not make the connection that the taller guy next to him is Art Garfunkel? Even if he has a lot less of the crazy hair, it seems like an easy connection to make.

And unless Art couldn't sit still, there's no way to confuse him for Larry David. I saw David in Sag Harbor once and the guy couldn't stop moving. It was like watching Robin Williams.

Honestly If I ran into Art I’d have no idea who he was because I never really followed their music. I know Paul Simon though from SNL and other stuff. I think my buddy said he was or is big yankee fan so I’d guess at yankee stadium a lot if the fans would just gravitate toward him

Click link twice. First time, you'll just get a car commercial on repeating loop, but if you click out, and back in again, you'll get the sketch.

I have seen video/DVD of that 1981 concert and it was great.

I saw Stevie Wonder in April and November (the final date) 2015 when he did the Songs in the Key of Life tour. Just fantastic performances doing the enter double sided to LP album along with other hits. One of the most amazing things was at a then 65 years old, that voice was a strong and clear as ever.

The delayed applause must have hurt. I guess maybe people wouldn't recognize him even if he were standing right next to Paul.

So at this point I'm guessing the Preseason Kick Off Meetup will take place at a Simon and Garfunkel reunion concert. Time and place TBD.

Yeah, some snide comments about "taking back his songs by singing them himself" made it clear early that there would be not even a brief remembrance of that partnership of his career during the show. Wasn't really special the way I thought a career finisher would be. He talked about being local a couple of times but besides that it was the exact set list he's been playing the entire tour. Great musicianship and a nice venue/crowd but nothing special, besides the fine fried balls courtesy of The Arancini Bros.

Would have gone to see Jamiroquai there couplle weeks ago if we hadn’t gone to see them in Mexico City in April. Really bummed we didn’t see Tom Petty there last tour

No, it was in Flushing Meadows/Corona Park in the shadow of whatever those round buildings from Men in Black are/were.

I saw Talking Heads at Forest Hills more than a few years ago on the tour when they were filming Stop Making Sense, big suit, beatbox and all.
