Preseason Kick Off Meetup

Posted on our Twitter page as well, but I know some on here don't use Twitter much. Me and my friend who run the Mullin's Maniacs page are putting together a kick off event on either Sat. 10/13 or Sun 10/14 at an unspecified cigar lounge somewhere in Nassau. We will pay for 1 cigar and at least 1 beer per person, obviously with limitations as I expect a typical lounge can't hold more than 20 people or so in a private room. Still researching the details, but any interest? Just figured I'd put it out there. So far there are 13 people interested on Twitter, but not sure how many will actually show. What could be better (other than a top 25 type season) than getting a bunch of fans together and BS over the team while smoking a good cigar and throwing a few back?!

Will be in Europe but hopefully you get to meet some of the other guys here

Too bad MJ, but I suppose choosing Europe over a cigar lounge ain't too tough a choice! We will look to also have some pre-game meetups at Acquista's. Maybe the black Mercedes will even roll up and Lou will be escorted inside for a sighting. That actually happened last time I went and it was pretty gangster I must say.

Hey Mike,
Great job in trying to organize a pre-season event for fans. I'd have definitely given it consideration except for the fact that my only experience trying to smoke a cigar was when I was pretty drunk and in my friend's car leaving a SJU fraternity dinner. Immediate nausea, and my stomach emptied before I could get the passenger window down to vomit out of the car window. That pretty much turned me off cigars forever, and now when friends gathering go outside to smoke cigars, I stay in the house because of that event.

Good luck though. Great job on your part. A redmen.com pre or post game event would be great this season.

I am interested depending on the time. Tough Weekend for me as I have one kid in the area the area with their club soccer team playing a game Friday and another Sunday and another kid with a football game Saturday. Of course I don't know the times of any of them yet.

Full disclosure, I am an occasional cigar smoker but have not touched one since I was on a cruise ship the end of July due the same end results Beast mentions in an earlier post. Le't just say, I won't be smoking that type of particular brand of cigar ever again.

Thanks for the response guys, I figured some may not be into it if they are not cigar smokers. I'm no pro myself, I'll just have the occasional cigar maybe a few times a year, usually just special occasions. If you don't mind the smoke in the lounge, you are always welcome to still have a beer or two or maybe wait until the next meetup we schedule. I was planning on asking those who plan on attending to come with their SJ gear on as it would make it more fun and also some free brand awareness for our marketing dept. (we have one?) hah. I know there was an official SJ cigar event, however not many are willing to spend the $800 or whatever it was. Figured this would be a good alternative. I was also considering optional donations attendees could make, 100% of which would go to the program, but maybe it's not a good idea? What do you guys think? By the way speaking of donations, I got a call from a SJ student asking for alumni donations and I did donate. I also asked how the fundraising was going and she said it's been increasing lately which is a good sign IMO.

The 4 weekend msg games easiest for post game celebrations are the dec 9 1pm game Jan 27 12pm game the sat feb 9 12pm game ( the day after mjmaherjr’s birthday so we better freaking win ) and the feb 17 5pm game

If anyone wants to do a meetup at Paul Simon Saturday night I'll be the fat old man looking only slightly interested. ;)

I saw Paul Simon at Forest Hills last year. Not only is his personality a total dud, but his voice is completely shot. Some things remain though. He is still short.

I'm not even a fan but I'm in town this weekend for a family visit and a couple of my aunts and uncles had an extra ticket. Anticipating a lot of special guests for this final show I understand. I imagine one in particular, if they can get on stage together.

One time he was at Art's apartment in NYC and Paul went over there and they were thinking about doing some concerts. They start playing in the apartment and after like 10 minutes Paul stops and yells at Art and says " you sound like crap " and walks out. lol

He said they used to have some monster fights

For those without Twitter, if you’re in just reply “I’m in”.

My wife gave me the DVD of their 1981 reunion Concert in Central Park recently and we watched it the other night. What a great concert that was.

Short of giving the fans what they really want and bringing Art out to finish the concert with a 10-song S&G encore, hopefully he gives them a few songs. I'm not sure how much energy Simon has these days, but it would be awesome if he played for several hours.

I'm kind of hoping for a Last Waltz kind of experience. If it's just another stop on his Farewell Tour I'll be disappointed and I'm not even paying for tickets.

If you are a fan of Paul Simon's friend Sting, he's in Atlantic City on the 21st and doesn't have anywhere else to be until the 25th . . .

Mike - I really like the get together you organized.. Unfortunately I don't smoke and I drink very little. I would definitely be interested in a group getting together at Acquista Trattoria before a game(I would buy Mike Maher's dinner if he showed up to the game at CA after). I also would be open to a meet up before or after a game at MSG.
