I think we are a much quicker team then Providence. Good chance to pick up a win in the Donut.

Providence is 3-1 in the big east. They do not need this one as bad as we do. We are right back in it with a win and then have the game of the year vs seton hall in the garden.

They are 10-7 overall and need this game badly for NCAA / NIT consideration
They are always tough at the Dunk and road wins in the BE are hard to come by
A win on Wednesday would be a great confidence builder for the Johnnies

Of course PC needs the next one considering their record.

Anyone have any stats on our last ten or so games playing at Providence? I vaguely remember D’Angelo and crew winning there one year but it really is a tough place to play. I think it’s been that way since the days of Paco Screen and Billy the Kid.

Mike Anderson recently coached against Providence in a opening round NIT game. His Arkansas team won 84-72.

Heron & LJ played Providence last season.

The Johnnies should benefit from that past history.

Paris Horne hit a corner shot to win a game there as time was running out.

In the decade just concluded, we actually won 4 times up there (Lavin's teams were 3-1 at the Dunk). It's been at home where we've struggled with them. Only beat them twice, once at CA, and once at MSG.

I think with our pressure defense we can turn over their point guard Pimpkins. I agree with the other poster that we see faster than them. It’s tough to win in The Dunk though.

Since I splurged for better seats for Seton Hall game, let’s beat Friars & make Saturday interesting. :)

David Pumpkins????

We can beat them for sure. Beating teams like WVU and Arizona weren’t a fluke. When we play our game and defend and rebound plus make a decent percentage of shots, we can beat a lot of teams. Hopefully we continue back on the course we were on before our mini-big East slide. Take it to the friars!

Notwithstanding early road warrior success (away teams a surprising 8-11 in Big East play), expect road wins will becoming increasingly difficult to come by as teams scrap for NCAA separation in a packed conference and look to protect home court.

Providence banking 2 road wins out of the gate is a massive offset for them, but they won't want to make it two Ls in a row at home, have an extra day off, and don't have to travel.

Tough one for Johnnies, but one of more winnable road opportunities remaining.

I've been looking at the teams that St John's and Providence have both played.

Providence may have lucked out playing Georgetown Dec 31. That was shortly after Georgetown had 4 players leave. Ewing had made adjustments when the Johnnies played them Jan 8.

I think this is a winnable game for St John's. Providence may have a slight edge. I expect a close game that's decided in the last couple of minutes. Looking forward to watching Wed.

Providence beat Georgetown 76-60
The Johnnies lost 66-87 a trouncing

Providence narrowly beat St Paul 66-65
The Johnnies beat them 74-67

Both teams got beat by Butler
Providence 58 -70
Johnnies 58-60
