Feel good about this game
I feel like the path to winning this game is so clear but I still feel iffy for some reason. I think it is because they are coming off a really bad home loss and we are coming off a great home win. I just feel like it is rare a Ed Cooley Providence team puts up consecutive duds at home.

I think our boys are smelling it and know they laid an egg against these guys last week.

PC has obviously struggled as of late, especially at home, but Cooley has built a tremendous culture there. After a really poor effort against Xavier I would be surprised if they came out flat.

I didn't get to see much of our first matchup, but the Friars struggle to create easy baskets so its important to not give them second and third opportunities like a few weeks back. Looking for our guards to really pressure their guards defensively and turn them over. Would like to see us pack in the weak side help especially when Watson is posting and force their players minus Reeves to shoot it from deep.

Excited to be at the game tomorrow night, go Johnnies!

As Cooley and a number of posters said, SJU is a different team w/o Heron, so having him should help on the boards where PC killed us last time. The Dunk is tough, but PC has lost there more than usual as their young team struggles. Lastly if they keep zoning us, would love to see Figgy at foul line with his nice mid range game & ability to find right guys at good spots.

Expecting another tough BE road game v a coach who has fared well against SJU, but I like our chances a lot.
Right on with the rebounding differential - 43 to 23. Diallo, who was off offensively, grabbed 15 of those 43. Watson and Jackson hurt us at the foul line shooting 14 for 18. Can't allow Watson to get the ball down low, Clark obviously in danger of fouling out once again.
Ponds and Figgy only double figures scorers. Of course we were without Heron.
Have to do a better job on Duke. Can't expect Diallo to have another off night offensively.
Gut says we turn over their guards more and have a solid start.
Agree. Play up in their jock strap and prevent easy passes into Watson.

Friars a problem because they are long and athletic. Our only long and athletic player above 6'5 is Roberts, so I would expect to see him in there. He also is very active around the rim either going for rebounds or blocking shots. We can't expect a different result, especially in Providence, unless staff corrects what was wrong last game.

After Sunday’s Win, can’t afford a let down against PC . Another must Win game vs a 3-9 opponent . On their home court . Mullin should use Keita and Roberts without hesitation . They can defend and harass Watson and Young inside . Even if they have to foul often . Better to see Watson on the line to shoot a 1 and 1 than have him make the basket and shoot a free throw too. Simon needs to neutralize Diallo . Having Keita and Trimble playing with Ponds , Figgy and Heron proved to be a good combo for scoring in the Nova game . Spanarkel said as much on the Air . Having these 5 on the Court gives our 3 best offfensive players the Ball more often . Clark and Simon often impede these guys seeing the Ball enough . Keita and Trimble just have to play D and rebound . We need Simon’s D and Clark to score from outside but, not at the expense of Heron and Figgy getting less touches .Especially at Crunch time , Clark hoisting 3’s and Simon driving wildly to the hoop and miss the Bunny is not good planning .

I never trust this team coming off a win, but we seem like a much better team than them with Heron.

Sweeps are so hard to swallow.

Got to move the ball better and hit open shots. The top of the offense was really passive in the first meeting and this killed us. Heron was definitely a big missing piece for his style and athleticism.

It's *almost* impossible to think of us performing as badly as we did in the last game against Prov. We we were out-rebounded by a margin of 43-23 and shot 16% from the 3-point line. Yes, they are a bad matchup but they're not Duke. We will win this game.

What has me worried is while we were awful last time out, Providence did not play well either and still mauled us. Diallo and Reeves were a combined 5-25. That's unlikely to happen again.

My prediction is if we lose it will be very ugly around here. Actually, if we win it won’t be much different. Bracing myself!

Mullin should play the second half of the Vill game for the team and they will, see that although the team shot the ball poorly and its star offensive player shot miserably SJU made up a double digit deficit vs a top twenty team.
All because of the tremendous defensive energy they put out. They show this effort vs the elite big east teams but seem to sleep walk vs the lesser lites. Their effort vs Vill resulted in very few good shots in that second half. Put that same effort out for the remainder of the season and they will be dancing.

Team needs to show up tonight with max effort. Shouldn't be a problem. However, it has happened in a few games this year. Can't happen tonight. Enough talent on SJU to win all remaining games. Providence beat us physically last game. We need a group effort with everyone accountable. Hope they get it done. No excuses.

Expecting a momentum building win setting up revenge affair at packed MSG Saturday. Getting a feeling that Heron and Figgy will step up again, allowing our best player, Ponds, to deal effectively with most double teams and traps resulting in a solid game as well. Would be shocked if these guys are not acutely focused and ready.

On D, anticipating ample steals and deflections to keep young Friar guards out of sync. Hope Simon guards Diallo & makes it difficult for him. Lastly, have to believe Heron helps with rebounding and banging with their bigs.

Agree with everything that’s been said with regard to winning this game. I think also we need Ponds to have a Ponds type game. Yes, we need to move the ball and get Figgy and Heron involved but Ponds needs to finish the type of drives that he didn’t finish against Villanova. Maybe we get their big guys into some foul trouble taking it to them.

we better have some pride in who we are. cant let these guys sweep us. if an inferior opponent ever beat me in basketball or handball, i would come out hard the next game. no let up. hope our guys have this same mentality.
