I think CMA needs to copy Creighton's practice routine by shorter, less intense practices. Do more shooting.
The starting five should be:
Dunn
Heron
Figueroa
Earlington
Roberts
Based on who we have, why should Roberts even start over Champagnie ...because he's 2 inches taller?

Roberts can also influence the game as rim protector and shot blocker.

As well as he's played, foul trouble remains an issue with him. You don't want him on the bench 2 minutes into the half, and you don't want to put the other team in the bonus 5 minutes in.

BPI says 60.8% chance of victory. We've lost so much lately, that it's difficult to see where any win is going to come from right now, but as fans, we're also not objective.

Keep in mind, BPI has only been wrong on 3 of our games this year, and 2 of those were in our favor:

vs. Arizona
@DePaul
Georgetown

It is more about minutes than who starts. Like Marcellus, but if this program is to succeed in long term, I suspect MA will invest more in Julian than ME. The latter to me is an able complementary guy, but believe Champagnie with his rebounding & savvy will be a high impact player in the BE in coming years. He does have to be more consistent with his mid range jump shooting, but my gut that will come. Happy to have both players though.

I have immense respect for your opinion and outlook regarding the Team and program Paultzman. Earlington has just started concentrating on basketball full time and look at the jump he’s made in one season after he didn’t even play last season. I know he’s not going to shoot the way he did against Creighton the rest of the season but obviously his offensive game is improving. I understand the foul trouble issue also but the only way he’s going to learn to play keep himself out of foul trouble is to play. Marcellus does so many good things out there , all the little things and now his offense is improving. I love Champ also but due to the fact that The Duke has just started concentrating fully on basketball, I don’t Think anyone really knows what his ceiling is? He might become an Anthony Glover type player , he’s a very good athlete. He finishes well on the break, fills the lanes and runs the floor well for his size and he’s a bull on the boards with great positioning . I think there’s a chance his upside might be higher than people think.

Appreciate your points, but remember Julian arrived as a 17 year old & most of his summer was spent rehabbing an injury v skill refinement like shooting drills, etc. To me his rebounding numbers & ability speak volumes. I have seen Marcellus in high school and understand his path to hoops. I just think Julian’s size, savvy & possible physical growth supports my sense of his potential. Put both on the open market & suspect Julian would get better attention. Room for both though.

Given talent, upside, and a freshman easy case to be made the development of Champagnie is most important of any player on current roster.

Add to it that optically, you have to demonstrate you can bring guys like this along. This has to be a place that 3/4 star kids can come and feel confident they will get better + shine...and then actually do in both regards. Seems that is big part of MA operating model historically and hoping that rings true here.

As Paultz notes doesn't need to be at expense of anybody, certainly not Earlington. Hope same development point is true for him and clearly even a replication of his production this year for the next 2 would be massive value add.

But freshman leading the team in rebounds don't grow on trees, and Champagnie's overall mix of size, athleticism, and skillset is promising for him to flourish in all 3 phases of the game. Terrific prospects.

Thanks Paultzman, I didn’t know that Julian was rehabbing an injury all summer. Also, wasn’t trying to diminish Champs prospects I understand his potential upside. Also, think that Earlington’s might be higher than some think, although not higher than Champ’s At this juncture. I’m also happy to have them both.

Should expect a 2 - 3 zone on Wednesday. Cooley used it against Xavier.Whoever guards Watson can't give him the baseline, goes left. Going to need to rebound against the likes of Watson and Diallo, no easy baskets in the paint.

Julian champaignie is waaaaaay overated on this board. Hes the new greg williams for johnnies fans. Hes on ok players by has no offensive game and its getting worse.

I like champaignie but hes no more then a 7th or 8th guy on the roster. A role player.

The duke just dropped a 25 burger on creighton. Probably not the right time to say I overrate him.

you posted that Champagnie should be benched and not allowed to play, in a game thread when Champ was having one of the best games of his young career @Depaul. Once you said that your credibility on evaluating Champagnie was rendered completely useless.

He was awful in the first half of that game. Was hurting the team. He did turn it around and had a much better half.

I like champaignie. I just dont see what 95% of st nohns fans see that is is going to be some cornerstone player for the next 3 years. I could be wrong and I hope I am.
