Heard 16,000 tickets sold for Saturday already
Winning big games wakes up the St. John's fandom from decades of slumber, energizes them, and brings them out in hordes.
Let's keep this going...

Team's got to focus: one game at a time. Don't try to make crazy cross court passes or shots beyond their normal range. Play defense, don't lose your man. No stupid fouls, especially on 3-point attempts. Hit your free throws, like against Marquette. More passing, less dribbling. Mullin - call some timeouts if you don't rest your regulars. Switch up your defensive sets, play some zone, full court PRESS on occasion.
Go Johnnies!
Understand nearly 16K tickets have been sold for Saturday's game at the Garden.

If you haven't bought tickets you probably should ASAP
The school dumped at least 3,000 tickets on the secondary market. Numerous tickets available at a very reasonable price as well

This will probably be a high scoring affair. Both teams are tough to defend, especially with the frosh back on Providence. This game will boil down to who shoots it better and foul trouble. Providence is not very deep either. To keep their scoring down we need to not allow offensive rebounds as this will prevent them from getting second possesions closer to the basket and help keep us out of foul trouble. The motto for this game is box-out and rebound!!!!!!!

You haven't watched many Providence games this season.

Well, if you think they're tough to defend then I suggest you go back and re-watch their games.

Would be a total St. John’s move to win like we did last night and then lose this one
Let's not be negative before the game even starts Jacky! :) :) :)
But any time after the first half under-16 time out is fair game!

I don’t know which is funnier, MG’s post or Jack’s new avatar!

Per Mike Hopkins

Since scoring 90 points at Georgetown in double OT a few weeks ago (73 in regulation) the Friars have managed 72, 68, 64, 70, 63, 55 and now 67. U.G.L.Y.

Really encouraging to hear about attendance figures. We definitely haven't been getting 16K+ fans against below average Big East teams in recent years.

Just for reference, I believe last year's highest attended game was vs #1 Villanova (17,123). The Georgetown game this year beat that.

The last time we were actually good was in 2014-15 (Tournament team). Our game vs Providence only attracted 8,973. And yes, it was on a Saturday. Potentially doubling our attendance in that short a time period is incredible.

This is NYC. The center of the universe. If St. John’s is exciting, if it has a relevant and competitive product, the fans will come. If not-not.
It’s that simple.

This is a good matchup for us. Watson only plays about half the game for them and they don’t have anyone to guard Ponds that I’ve seen. They don’t shoot that well and they turn the ball over.

I’m sure they’ll get some easy pts in the paint
In the first half.

Attendance has noticeably been a lot better and this includes during some successful Lavin years. I remember thinking it would be impressive if we could get 10k or more and we got over 18k for G'Town who isn't even back to being truly relevant yet. PC is usually a weaker draw, but to hear 16k sold that's insane. I wonder how much more money we're bringing in from ticket sales to this point this year vs. a few years ago. I usually go out of Ronk or Babylon to the Garden but I've recently driven out to Hicksville since every line runs through there. Seeing more and more SJ gear which is fun to see. I asked a guy in Hicksville where he got his jacket with really nice sewn on logos and all. He called his wife on the spot and he told me "Costco!". Who knew they sold our stuff?!

This post is a hybrid between this topic (Providence pre-game) and NET rankings. In short, pretty crazy in my view that Providence (with NET rank of 85) counts as a Quad 3 game. At least according to these metrics, not much upside — almost an expected win, but would be a somewhat “bad loss.”

This may not be the best year for the Big East, but it still is an extremely competitive conference, top to bottom.
