Not that I'm an expert on ethics or anything, like some of you guys, but it sounds to me like Wright's behavior is, at the very least, borderline unethical. Thank god we never hired him as our coach.

If both Gillespie and Posh were healthy the line would be around Nova -8. Would probably be around that too if both are out. Think it would drop to 6 if Gillespie is out and Posh is healthy

When posh went out tonight we were tied. Wusu came in and got the job done. You can point to the one TO he had, I thought he was fouled, but it was his two passes that lead to 4 crucial free throws to help seal it. If it’s not posh it’s him. Smith has shown nothing to suggest he’s a better option at the point than him IMO.

Smith has been an enigma this year because he hasn't shot the ball consistently and has spent much of the last few games on the bench. That said  he has been a reliable ball handler with a 39 to 18 Assist to Turnover Ratio which has been 16 to 2 in the Big East. I agree that Wusu is an excellent passer and is currently one of the primary ballhandlers with Posh. If Posh is out it makes sense to me that Smith would play more.

Completely agree and actually believe smith should play more regardless of Posh’s status. Credit to him for taking care of the basketball and he’s certainly capable of making a nice pass. But I wouldn’t play him over Wusu at either guard position.

We've finally gotten to a point where all 10 guys are capable of making contributions each game to greater or lesser degrees. That should help down the stretch.

This is something I thought was possible when this roster was constructed and remarked recently when the wheels appeared to be falling off.   I was mocked for it, but the truth is that we have the broadest rotation in recent memory and each guy can contribute something of value and play at the Big East level.    With a CMA team you have to be patient.   Thank God he has it, Cragg has it, and most of our fans do too.

I'm glad to see you admit you aren't an expert on ethics or anything.   I was getting worried that you though you were.

I'm a little dismissive of the assist to turnover ratio, although I appreciate you pointing it out.   The demands of funning the offense and bringing the ball up against pressure will cause turnovers to increase.   I do agree with you that Smith will get an opportunity for more minutes should Posh be unavailable, but I believe that minutes will be grabbed by the most effective guards, no matter who starts

We have to cut down on fouling when they have the ball late in the shot clock and going nowhere with it, that happened a few times in the last game.  It's maddening because you play good D for 24-5 seconds and then one of our guys gets antsy and reaches in or bodies up and gets called.

I agree with you.  The flip side is that we also seem to allow some pretty good looks for 3's as the shot clock is expiring.   So to avoid that, our guys try to force a bad shot, and if they are late to the ball their momentum carries them into the shooter.

Correctable, and I'm sure our staff is working on that sort of thing.   Good point though!

And keep our feet on the ground. Avoid going for the pump fakes that leave us in no man's land.

In the first game, Nova went 11-23 (48.7%) from the ‘3’, including Moore (2-5) and Gillespie (3-5) whose availability is in question, I believe.  Defend the 3 with a mix of zone and man.  Keep them off balance.
Free throw disparity was SJU with 8-17 vs. 20-24 for Nova.  Let’s not repeat.

It's sarcasm. I wasn't being serious. I woulda hired Bernie Madoff if he knew how to coach.

We do play the better BE teams there. Probably accounts for the record, aside from us not playing well.

We need to…

Stop going for the shot fakes (especially Champagnie - possibly the biggest culprit)
Avoid reaching in when Dixon gets ball down low…be ready for it and draw the offensive foul as he gets overly aggressive
Invite anyone not named Gillespie, Moore and maybe Daniels to shoot from perimeter
CLOSE OUT CLOSE OUT CLOSE OUT with out leaving feet

Nova is not a physically imposing team. But, they are COMMITTED to ball movement and closing out. It is what makes them look great against less disciplined teams. When they face athletic teams that play with any degree of discipline, they tend to get bitch slapped.
