We need wider nets for our guys. :)

It will take several successful seasons to rebuild the Johnnies fan base.

I think Mike Anderson is the right coach to do it. I see him building a solid program that will attract fans.

Mike is 60. I think he will coach at least another 7 years and then retire. Plenty of time to get the Johnnies reestablished in the BE and with MSG full of excited fans.
And when he retires, then what? TJ Cleveland takes over, and we go down the tubes again? Not that I think Cleveland would automatically be a bad coach, it's just that, without having been a successful D1 coach before, there will always be that skepticism, unless they do what Temple did last year, where Dunphy and McKie were basically co-head coaches, and it was a year of transition.

Also, I could see Anderson going a lot longer then 7 more years. Boeheim is 75 years old, Coach K is 72, Roy Williams is 69. Leonard Hamilton, 71. Jim Larranaga, 70 (all from the same conference, ironically). None of those guys appear to be going anywhere, anytime soon.
Amazing, we are halfway through the 2019-2020 season and posters are talking about what may happen "7" years from now, lmao. Maybe it's my age, but I am going to take it a game at a time. We are going through a rough stretch right now but hopefully we get it together on Saturday.

Blowouts are never behind any team. Even the best teams get blown out on occasion. That’s just not how basketball works.

Does anyone think Anderson substitutes too much? Can you really build chemistry when the same 5 guys are never on the court together for any extended period of time?

Think about it. What is St johns best lineup and how many minutes a game is that lineup on the floor?

We don’t have a best lineup. If we had 5 studs or even 2, coach Anderson would not be subbing as much. He does so because we have one guy that shows up every game for the most part in Figueroa, but aside from that we don’t have anybody the starting lineup can’t live without. That includes Heron at this point.

I love a coach using his bench, but in our case our entire team doesn’t have much more talent than our opponents benches. It is the way it is until we land more talent that the starting lineups can’t live without.

I feel that Rasheem Dunn should start in place of Heron. Never thought I'd say that. :eek:hmy:

Dunn is more energetic on the court and I think he's slowly emerging as a leader. Heron should come in off the bench. He needs to compete against Heron to start. Maybe that will light a fire under him.

What we don't have is upperclassmen who came up in Coach Anderson's system to provide on-court leadership and maintain a particular team culture.

The duke shows up every game. And I think Dunn does as well.

Dunn does too. Earlington is a nice addition and has done a great job recently but has liabilities in shooting, handling etc. Dunn is the only guy besides LJ that has been playing like a starter and I should have included him with LJ originally.

No reason for the board to implode here. We overachieved first half of the schedule, lost narrowly to Butler and had a chance with Xavier as well. Last game was our only terrible performance. We are the least talented Big East squad and we knew that going into the season. I still think we can turn it arojnd and win some games but this team was never going to go deep into any post-season and unlikely to make it.

The most salient and insightful comment in the thread.

Hell, that stretch is 20yrs long (0ncaa wins), and that will continue this year.
No fault to cma, buts it's still a reality.

I agree, forget the past years. This year he's just one of the guys, nothing more.
MSG going to be an embarrassing ghost town. I agree with everyone saying fan support especially student support is terrible, however I'm sure many fans anticipated this fall from grace. When's the last time we had a team that dominated all year in the top 25 all year and made at least the Sweet 16? Because that's what it would take to seriously get fans out in droves. Many fans were just starting to take notice, but that's gone...now they will be at home. This 3 game stretch is also why the coaches and AP voters never ranked us. They knew this was coming. Things are pretty bleak when we can't compete in the Big East and PC, SHU, and now even freaking Rutgers have passed us by. As much as I hated the Lavin era, it seems like forever ago we were above .500 in Big East play. And even then our peak was 10-8. That's our high water mark. I really hope we got this hire right, because it's really starting to seem like we cannot wake up permanently as a program if trends continue.
Does anyone else think it is unusual to play DePaul in MSG?

The Johnnies should have an advantage against Providence. Mike Anderson's Arkansas team beat them 84-72 NIT in March.

Mike is familiar with their players and coach.

I think he'll stick with a certain lineup or group of players' if it's reaping benefits (ie, UMass, West Virginia, Butler).

Maybe so. But a different team in a different year with a different set of personnel.

1980's or 1990's DePaul would be fine, lol. But I was hoping tomorrow's game would be at CA. It'll be a small partisan and I think we'd have a better advantage in the matchbox.

My schedule has flipped around a lot the last few years so I really enjoy the Saturday games at noon at the Garden. I don't love the small crowds but I have great seats and I can invite a guest and not have to worry about their comfort. Win or lose you still have a lot of day left after the game. This week I can watch the playoffs if I want. I also like the 6:30pm starts at CA where I mostly go with my friend who is used to high school gyms or my son who is 16 and doesn't have to worry about back problems yet. I can leave around 6 and usually home not much past 9. 10 years ago I couldn't make many of the Saturday games or the early starts at CA.
