Is a game like this just a favor, or are we still paying for them to travel ?

Rather play any low end tri-state local.

I hope you guys realize we already have a thread wherein this has been discussed ad nauseum.

Keep in mind, that FS1's coverage on this night is whiparound style.

There are about 7 or 8 Big East teams starting their seasons that night, and all against low-level D1 opponents.  So, they are staggering the start times, and FS1 will be going in and out of games, similar to how CBS used to do the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament.  Supposedly, at least 20 minutes of airtime will be devoted to each game.

The full game can be viewed live on the Fox Sports App (I think they still call it Fox Sports Go).

There are plenty of reasons to play low level division 1 teams in the beginning.Let the professionals at St.John decide who and when  they want to play according to their schedule and availability. We all first crawl then walked then ran..

So obviously there’s a MVS kid we’re eyeing as a spring transfer, right?
worst case scenario Tony Bourdain had a great Miss Delta episode

The problem is not Mississippi Valley State or playing a lower level D-I opponent which is commonplace. It's the issue that is well documented in the 21-22 schedule thread.  Ideally, we would have had one more Quad-1 opportunity.

Will be disappointing if the students don't come out tomorrow night. 18 months of no in person basketball they should be at a faver pitch to get into the arena for a regular season game.

Fingers crossed for a great atmosphere

I downloaded the Fox Sports app and they only list professional games (NBA, NHL, etc) to be aired tomorrow night. No college games are listed. Am I looking in the wrong place? Can you please let me know how I can find the St John's game on the app?

Thank you very much!!

Just an FYI and ESPN could certainly be wrong but I was looking at tomorrow nights Big East games on ESPN scoreboard out of curiosity and ESPN shows Creighton - Arkansas Pine Bluff game on FS1 at 8 pm rather than our game. Hopefully, we will be on either FS1 or FS2.

The blurb on the tv on FS1 for tomorrow night reads:

Big East Opening Night Tip Off

6:30-10:30 pm

This has been talked about a bunch, but FS1 will be televising all the BE games at the same time  and skipping from one to the other.

Totally agree,  I attended  long before dorms, I can understand back then   commuter school and all.

However, all of those students living on campus, those small sections should be filled for each home game

Mississippi Valley State is coming off a 2-22 effort in 2020-21. The Delta Devils return their top two scorers from last season in Caleb Hunter and Terry Collins, each of whom averaged 12.3 points per outing.  In an exhibition win over Tougaloo College on Nov. 5, freshman guard Devin Gordon tallied a game-high 27 points on 8-of-19 shooting, including a 5-for-13 showing from beyond the arc.

Mississippi Valley State is under the direction of third-year head coach Lindsey Hunter, a 17-year NBA veteran who came to the Delta Devils following one season as an assistant coach at Buffalo.  Hunter, a two-time NBA Champion, was selected 10th in the 1993 NBA Draft following three years at Jackson State University, where he averaged 26.7 points per game as a senior.

This sucks.  I thought this was going to be televised on FS1.  I cant believe there is nowhere to watch this game in full?

Whip around coverage in NCAA Tourney early round games is one thing, but this tomorrow is nonsense. Tinkering with a good product after a long wait for season to launch is another example of disregarding “if it ain’t broken no need to fix it”adage imo.
