And they are Division 1!
Definitely Division 1--member of SWAC which is comprised of historically black colleges and universities.  conference winner gets automatic bis in NCAA tournament

KenPom has MVSU as the worst team in all of Division I. He has the next lowest ranked team almost 6 points better and he has St. John's as 44 points better.  That is exceptionally bad and it is kind of absurd this game was scheduled.

They lost 142-62 to Arkansas last year.
Can't wait for only a 30 point win and people complaining

They sucked even when they had Alphonso Ford.

I hate teams like this on the schedule. There are a whole bunch of patsies in the Northeast we could have played instead if we really wanted an easy game.

Didn't realize Ex NBA Lindsay Hunter was the coach.

Soriano might have his hands full with the 7'1" 250 lb freshman center..  lol.

Agreed. This game seems like nothing more than a glorified exhibition game with no upside for us, only downside if we don't annihilate them. Would much rather have played a middle of the pack, mid-major NE team. Don't get it.

Agree, a little tougher team would have helped.  We have to play Indiana on the road 2 games later and need to be ready.

I'd rather see us play Loyola of Maryland or Holy Cross or Army, some team in at least the 200's or at least not dead last........

Playing a low div one team is something all schools do.  In football, Ohio State played Akron and Alabama played Mercer in "forlorn hope" games.  MV St isnot only playing us but also Ole Miss and Vandy.  THese games allow lower tier schools to get revenue to support their athletic programs and larger schools to have a respite where they can get in game conditions.  Seton Hall is playing Nyack College.  Kansas is playing Tarlton.  Indiana is playing Jackson State (another SWAC school).  Gtown playing Longwood. UConn play Grambling (another SWAC team, that MV St beat last year).  I could go on ad infinitum--the point is all schools do it, NOT just St. Johns so I don't think criticism is warrented as to scheduling MV St. IMHO.

Take every single Division 1 team and put it in a hat. You could pick any one of them other than Mississippi Valley State, and it would be a better game. Every team plays cupcakes but not all cupcakes are the worst team in D1 with no geographical ties.

I get it and it's been discussed Ad nauseam, but we have 3 returning players. It'll be (slightly) stiffer competition than Baruch you'd think. This team needs time to gel, yes it's a bad team and won't help at all with resumes but there's nothing we can do.

I've heard Shoes is in charge of the schedule moving forward and or has major say in how it's going to be configured and that should help.

A game like this where we have no ties to the area etc personally I’d think it would make more sense to host a local. If the local school even created 200 ticket sales to their fans that’s not a bad thing for the school. I’m not sure Miss Valley is even a cupcake. More like ring dings ( No offense to ring dings I used to love those things with a glass of milk )

All the things a team can work on against a bottom level low major, they can also work on against a mediocre mid major. You don't improve playing against horrible competition. Better we should have scheduled another exhibition game. The real games should be against real comp IMO.
Maybe this was a favor to MVS, much as someone compared Bama playing Mercer. When we get anywhere near the Bama level, we can do favors. Right now we need to do what's best to elevate our program.

Nah I never dunked anything in milk. Put ring ding in left hand take bite then immediately swallow milk in the right hand. In Februaries though as a kid when my mom would make my bday cake with vanilla icing when she wasn't looking I'd bust out a ring ding and dunk it in the vanilla icing before she put it on the cake :)
