Mercer took 31 threes in their exhibition win and made just under 40% so we better be ready to get up on them. Five different kids made threes and one kid hit 5-8.
hopefully we put the mercy rule on them. I mean mercer rule
BPI doesn't seem to think so. They give us "only" a 74.7% chance of victory, which is still solid, but not an all-time blowout.

Yikes, ESPN is only giving us 75% odds of winning. By comparison, the 7 Big East teams playing tonight all have at least 94% (DePaul) odds of winning.

Providence is actually slightly under 90% tonight (Sacred Heart is the preseason NEC favorite), but yeah, that's scary.

Part of that has to be Mercer's success in recent years (until last year), because they have us over 90% in our next two games (I think it's too early to give you raw numbers on that, but they're much higher).

Thanks, I must've missed PC. I checked the Big East teams for tomorrow and they're over 90% as well.

That's reassuring about our next couple games (being >90%). Mercer is actually fairly solid with a #188 KenPom projection (out of 353). Typically opening games by Power teams are against teams in the 250-353 range.

I'd be happy with a win tomorrow, regardless of margin.

The guy who was behind that success was forced out.

Mercer is the toughest of our first 3 games but if we're going to be decent we should beat them fairly easily (Emphasis on "should")

It'd be really nice if all of these first 3 games are effectively over by the time we reach the final 5 minutes. Last year we had a tendency to let inferior squads hang around until the last couple of minutes and many of us correctly saw that as a bad sign heading into the marathon that is conference play. I don't want to have to count on our guys to knock down free throws or get a big stop in the final minute of the game against Mercer, Central Connecticut or New Hampshire. Let's be up 15-20 pts down the stretch. For me that'll be the first real sign that Coach Anderson has begun to change the mental makeup of our team. There's a significant gap in talent and we're at home. Let's see how we do.

Vermont is the first big test. Upsetting them or playing them tough could be the first indication that we may be better than expected. Getting easily handled by them will be the canary in the coal mine that the "experts" were right to overlook us.

Perfect game night to kick off a week's vacation in the Poconos starting Thursday. Watch the game on TV, pack a little and have more than a few adult beverages.

Mercer plays in a decent conference and we are considered one of if not the worst team in the Big East. Reminds me a little of the Bowling Green game we escaped last year.
