Potential Grad Transfers

I wouldn’t mind a sit out transfer big. At least next year we won’t have to worry about lack of bigs. Hopefully we can get Kofi , but , there is a lot of competition for his services. With all the grad transfer bigs, it’s hard to believe we couldn’t get one the last 2 years, especially w Owens gone.

Did they put out feelers to Christian Mekowulu who pulled out of Draft but not going back to Tennessee St. ?

No clue

Re non grad transfers, I did not realize hardship waivers are still possible. Just saw this, unrelated to SJU recruiting;

Wichita State will appeal to the NCAA to allow Teddy Allen (@JussHoopTeddy) to play immediately.
They will appeal that his support system is in Omaha, NE - which is a lot closer to Wichita than Morgantown.
He lost his mother to cancer the spring he signed with WVU.

6'9", 245 pounds from Nigeria. Averaged 13 and 8 this year. I don't care what is required - lie to him and tell him we're changing to a big man focused offense, deliver him a dump truck full of Nigerian cash, I honestly don't care, just get him here.
Given the exchange rate, they should just buy him a Big Gulp.

No good basketball players ever came from Nigeria anyway.
Yeah, we shouldn’t bother sending a car to the airport to pick him up.

On the plus side, the temperature is above freezing.

I think any credible big transfer would wait until Ponds announced before aligning himself with SJU .

Good point. Although if--as Paultzman intimates--the Staff has gotten the 'unofficial' word from Shamorie that he'll return, they would convey 'confidence' to that Grad Big that our roster will be 'strong' 'intact' 'ready-to-contend' next season.
Just sayin'...

Never intimated staff knows he is returning, just noted my sense he is.

I stand corrected. Sorry. Was going on the 'boomerrang' post and rawdognyc's commentary that that was the gist of the 'picture'.
Damn, tea leaf reading is a tough gig!

FYI from Rothstein
UMass grad transfer Malik Hines has committed to McNeese State, per a source. Immediately eligible. Impact addition for Heath Schroyer.

Weird, but could probably be a 17 and 10 guy there. Maybe that gets him noticed for future career.

He should have held out to see if Trimble decided there were no minutes here. McNeese State would have waited until late August for him to decide.

Just when I think I've heard of every D1 program....

I had to google McNeese St... apparently in Louisiana.

Former Pistons great Joe Dumars was a graduate of McNeese State.

Yes, we had interest in him, but the staff didn't.

You make the Hines trade, or any Mystery Big on our ‘list’, trade to get a 5* stud like Heron any day of the week.
No debate and no question.

Matt kicked tires but passed for good reason. His main target got cold feet and never exercised his grad transfer option.

Paultz (or anyone else who might know the answer), is it permissible to contact a "potential" grad transfer prior to him actually becoming a "grad" transfer? When you say he "kicked" the tires I am not sure if that means he contacted someone or what? Seems like their might be some "tampering" rule or such, no? Just curious about the dark side of recruiting.
