Postseason Expectations

It’s all going to come down to who we play. If we get to the sweet 16 and face some Cinderella 14 seed, of course the expectations will change and a loss there would leave a sour taste in everyone’s mouth.

For now I’ll say 2nd weekend with NO CEILING for how far this team can go!
Cinderella 14 seed usually goes bombs away from 3, no Cinderella I can guarantee you will beat us.
We play smothering defense, as soon as they catch it behind the 3 - point line we'll be right in their face daring them to shoot it.

Just hope someone beats the NBA team from Auburn before we play them.

So my biggest fear for this team is obviously the ability to knockdown threes and close out games at the line. Some on here claim the three point shooting doesn’t concern them but the foul shooting does. So it got me thinking to the last really good ST John’s team to make a run in the tournament. So I did some research and this is what I found.

From the line:
Grant 59% / Zuby 68%
Artest 64% / Luis 74%
Postell 79% / Scott 83%
Bootsy 65% / Kadary 57%
Barkley 77% / Smith 66 %
Gray 66% / Wilcher 77%
Jessie 64% / Ayo 75%
Richardson 44% / Vince 67%
Emanuel 44% / Prey 57%

So with exception of Barkley being a better foul shooter than either of our primary ball handlers, this year’s team actually shoots better from the line.

The big difference however is from three where the Elite 8 team had four guys shoot over 35% from three and one over 40%. This year only Ayo in limited attempts and Smith are over 35%.

Not sure if this makes anyone feel better or worse but I found it interesting and did not remember the Elite 8 team struggling so much at the line.

We have beaten every BE team at least once and most twice .

Our 2 losses were on Nova and Creighton ‘s home court and we lost those games at the wire .
We have also won a lot of close games and, usually do not blow out our opponents . Still , no one has blown us out either .

I think we win the BET .

How well we do and our NCAA seeding will depend on who we meet .
While our defense tends to wear down opponents , we have started slowly in games against teams that have quick , get to the Rim guards . Even Wusu had success against us and he’s not the long and quick guards we will face in the BET or NCAA .

RJ and Scott , especially have to shut down the Cam Jones , Ball , etc . Smith wears down Ashworth , which is about as good as he can do against him .

In the NCAA , we don’t know Match ups until the Selection show .

Count on the NCAA to seed us a spot lower than what we deserve . The bias against the BE continues .

The number of teams selected from the Big 10 and SEC will be obscene . Bet on it .

No one knows how the rest of the season will play out. We have every reason for optimism, but we've been there and done that. On the other hand, I'd be shocked...shocked if we didn't make at least one final four while Pitino is our coach. Shocked.

Right now, as far as the dance is concerned, I'm just looking forward to selection Sunday. It's usually like any other Sunday for us. If I remember correctly, the network drops a region one at a time, instead of going team by team. I want a team by team approach, just so we can all watch our guys celebrate when "The Red Storm of St. John's University" is called.

As others have said, hard to have expectations without knowing who you may play. My only expectation is that the team will play hard for 40 minutes, and defend like someone stole their lunch money.

I watched the show last year… and they go matchup by matchup… I remember vividly as I watched last year… realizing it was over in the last region… heartbreaking given how well we were playing…

And then the gut punch… seeing the First 4 out posted… didn’t even make that

Were there cameras at every school, showing the team celebrating when their name was called?

no- not every school. In past years- it seemed like there were, seeing the teams that didnt make it added to the "drama" of the show...

Correct me if wrong, but think news came out that SJU wasn't* going to do a watch party event... maybe they knew...?
