(POST GAME) @Xavier (Cintas Ctr), Sun. Jan. 5, 4:30pm, FOX / 970AM

We left 31pts on the table between missed layups and free throws and we lost by 8. Bottom line.

Some things never change. St. John's, Georgetown, and DePaul bringing up the rear of the league in the early going, all at 0-2.

If we hit half the free throws and layups we missed it’s a tighter game. If we hit just 2 more 3-pointers we probably win. That was a frustrating game.

Looking forward to seeing cole next year, atleast he can shoot.

We play Gtown, Depaul & PC next. Now is the time to make hay of lesser league competition. Win those 3 and 7 or 8 league wins and NIT looks realistic. Need 2 at a minimum.

If we hit half the free throws and layups we win by 8 instead of losing by 8. Very frustrating I agree.

While we tire other teams out, we tire ourselves out into bad decision making and shots.

Heron should major in French or Spanish, to help him playing in Europe.

Did Roberts even play in the 2nd half? He was holding his shoulder after that one foul in first half. Plus, what a disappointment (so far) Steere has been. Expected he would be our 10/10 banger.

Steere is starting to remind me of Keita. Last year many on this board were touting how much better we would be when he came back from injury. This based on all of 4 minutes of playing time where all he showed was the ability to foul. Obviously, CMA does not believe Steere is ready to contribute in a major way or he would play him.

I don't know if I have ever seen a such bad three point shooting team. besides the blown layups, game would been much closer if the team converted some treys.

I may be in the minority here and do not mean to be critical, but LJ & Mustapha played 28 and 23 minutes respectively. While neither had great games, neither were they bad. Bottom line, I don't think we can be successful with these two guys playing those kind of limited minutes in BE play absent injury or foul trouble.

The 2nd half was painful to watch. Never seen so many missed layups.

I'm curious what Mike says in the press conference. He has to be very frustrated. The Johnnies are better than this.

“We had 17 more possessions than them because of our defense but you can’t short the basketball like that on the road in conference play - and Xavier’s experience was on full display today” - Mike Anderson post game

As great as Rutherford and Williams were on Tuesday, they completely disappeared in this one, although they were not the only ones.

Last year's team had a great starting 5, and nothing else. This year's team has 10 or 11 guys with similar skills, most of whom are probably one notch below Big East level.

This is where I disagree. We have two guys who have proven they can play significant minutes and score 14-15 ppg in high major play, but we are playing as if we have 10 or 11 players of roughly similar ability. We don't. Can't win that way in BE imho.

First of all 28 minutes for Figueroa is more than enough in a fast paced game for Figueroa. He has not been playing smart basketball and forces most of his 3's. The one 3 he hit today was a miracle shot or we would have shot ZERO % from the three point line.
Mustapha is clearly not 100% but he is still not playing up to expectation.
We were slow off our feet under the boards and I think CMA will address this issue.
Roberts may have been injured which accounts for the lack of minutes but his foul shooting is a major problem.
Free throws didn't lose the game as X shot only slightly better. We gave up around 20 points on missed layups and shots within 8 feet of the basket. It is a bad shooting team. Period.
Steere looks like a deer in headlights and seems to lack aggressiveness. Time will tell if he gets it.
This team with Posh and Cole would be undefeated.
