Nothing at all against Rutherford & Dunn (who I find very easy to root for and believe both play important roles on this year's team) but this game showed how important getting a true PG of Posh Alexander's talent level back into the program is. He can score but he's a also very good passer who will take care of the ball. Will be a very welcome addition,
Assist/Turnover ratio today for both PGs supports your point

Dunn and Nick Rutherford: 4 assists and 7 turnovers

Tom, UMass was only down 4 at the half to Virginia. They wound up losing by 12 but it was close most of the way. If you think tomorrow will be an easy game for us it won’t. I’m not saying that we will lose by any stretch but you’re acting like UMass is a horrible team and the game is already won. We have to come ready to play tomorrow. Virginia is the best defensive team in the country and UMass played them tight. I think our style will give them problems if we can control tempo because they want to play slow. But, this game is by no means a guaranteed win.

College basketball is a guards game too. Our two best players are 3/4's. Need 1's and 2's who can consistently create either for themselves or others. I like Dunn but he's a piece to the puzzle.
Do you think a healthy McGriff starts and gets a ton of minutes as a freshman?
Good point. No idea.

But clearly CMA isn't afraid to start a freshman like Julian.

Posh will also be a true freshman next season, so we shouldn't expect him to come in and be our savior. Atleast that's what everyone is saying this year about the young guys this year

They’re different levels of player chieftain. Posh will be our starting PG. Yes he will be a freshman. Don’t start twisting things. The young guys who are on the team this year were not highly recruited at all. Very pleasant surprises, yes.

Very frustrating game.  We outplayed ASU in the first half.  The second half was like watching a completely different team.  As stated, Heron played mindless and undisciplined basketball.  That pass to an invisible St. John's player is one that I've never seen while there was no pressure.  He has an issue with concentration and court awareness not seen in upperclassmen.  There is something amiss and I feel for him.
I warned fans not to expect another Shamorie Ponds with Rasheem but any pure point guard would have trouble with this group as none seem to be good pure shooters.
Roberts and Earlington have been a big part of the equation but that also confirms the low value of the contributions of Sears, Caraher and Williams.
Add the missing pieces of a pure ball handler like McGriff and the inside presence of Steere and the second half could have been different.
No comment on the staff since this loss was all attributed to bad on court awareness with 3 direct passes to opposing players for layups and turnovers by Dunn and Rutherford for scores on fast breaks.
These players are in serious need of Mary Lavin's Yoga and Meditation classes.

Good day for ASU. Football team just beat #6 Oregon in a tremendous game

Shittty half actually really shitty !

Heron will bounce back I guarantee my screen name on it. Champgnie oh man thats a guy we can look back at CMA and say WOW what did you see that others didnt

Fig was Fig. Love him but he is best served coming back neat year. We needed another Pg and ball movement was stale. Lets get on and learn

Great post! Thought you'd be passed out by now. ;) :)
Poor play from the point guard position (although, Rutherford and Dunn had their moments) and a terrible game by Heron.

Too many, ill advised passes and overall, sloppy play in the latter half. Defense also fell apart in the second half.
IMO, Heron performance biggest culprit In this loss. Offensive talent is not strong enough to sustain these type of performances. He has already thrown up 3 really bad stinkers this year which puts stress on rest of team. Probably need to ratchet back expectations as both he and LJ, while very good players, are more “Robin” than “Batman” and every team needs a Batman. Unlike Heron, LJ seems to find ways to score when his game is not up to par. Still fun watching the young guys develop and hoping Heron elevates his game.

With all that said, I think turning point of game was when Dunn allowed ball to be stolen at half court. Seemed to start the ball rolling downhill and from there the team did not respond well, if at all. That’s when you need a Batman to punch back.

Bottom line, we punched them, controlling virtually entire 1st half, but when they punched back we didn’t respond. Hopefully, a lesson.

listen to post game interview , Coach knew what was wrong, why did he not call timeouts ?

I don't doubt Heron will have some great games, but increasingly concerned he'll have too many games where he doesn't show up at all, when we would need adequate or contribute in other ways. He's lack of performance will drive many nuts for rest of season.

Get a W today and tighten up.

Agree big turning point
Still think Anderson sitting his starters up ten early in the game That second had zero scoring punch

The team played awful and it only corroborates my opinion that this will be Anderson's first losing season. Sure they want to run, but when you do, you still need to control the ball. They dont. When you pass it needs to be to one of the other 4 team mates on the floor, not to the sideline or the other team. Also we dont really have a lights out 3 point shooter. Heron and Figueroa can do it but they are too hot and cold, mostly cold. I hope they play better against UMass today and that they improve this year to prove me wrong. But it looks like a sad season and if I get to the garden it will be to drink some stella artois and eat an extra hot dog. There wont be much fun watching the game.
Now we get to kick UMASS, WAGNER, ST. Peter's, maybe all blowouts, and everyone will be all happy again.
Then see what happens vs. WVU, hope we won't get disappointed then.
I saw UMass play yesterday we will not kick there ass and don't be surprised if we wind up on the short end of this one as well

The return of Figgy and Heron had the potential to seduce fans into thinking we could pick up where we left off last year. But, in fact, those two are only enough to keep our heads above water. Remember, we are replacing three legit BE players with average talent and freshmen.

The reality to keep in mind is that next year is not our year either. This is a rebuild. Year three with CMA should produce a roster that can compete. I agree that another rebuild is a tough pill to swallow, but any coach deserves at least three years.

I don't expect a blowout, but I will definitely be "surprised if we wind up on the short end of this one as well".

There is going to be an added problem starting next year. UConn will be getting players and be recruiting over us as they will once again be in the big east and the programs credibility is essentially shot as we have been rebuilding for close to 20 years. Uh need I say they blew it by not hiring Pitino
