(POST GAME) @Georgetown, Thu., Feb. 3, 6p, FS-1

Coburn has a nice release and great rotation on his shot. Looking back, burying him on the bench when Wusu was in a funk was a real mistake. He may not match up well against some big East teams, But defenses will pay if they give him space from 3.

Does anyone know what is wrong with Pinzon? Sorry if stated in another post,
I believe it was a broken finger, than he had covid.  He was missing a lot of time and was probably not 100% with the finger so staff may be going for a medical redshirt, which is smart IMO, I think Pinzon will be a stud, wasting a year with him as the 10th or 11th guy when he's not 100% doesn't make much sense.

Not sure if the finger has anything to do with it.  Pretty sure he had a pretty good game after coming back from that injury.  Didn’t seem that the finger was holding him back

Only thing I can think of.

We still have great difficulty breaking the press.  Do they work on this in practice?

Press a presser has often worked against us, I guess it is an old hoops maxim for a reason. The amusing counterpoint was in the second half Anderson went to the post game against a post game team. I enjoyed that.

Only negative is 65% free throw shooting.
With this team I'll take that.  If they shot that number against Providence they would have won the game and things would be looking much different right now.

Agree but he doesn’t look good on his free throws

Welcome back Julian
Congrats Joel on your best game as a Johnnie - something to build on
Aaron continues to play well
Nice bounce back and a much needed win
Beat Butler - we still have a lot to play for this season

What's crazy is the BE is so good this year, still a ton of opportunities.  8 or the remaining 9 games are Q1/Q2 games.

If they can somehow put together a 4 game winning streak (counting the G-Town win today).  That probably puts them on the right side of the bubble.  And it's not really that crazy.  Butler is not that good very winnable road game, home game against Villanova, they've lost 6 games this year so far not completely unbeatable,  then get a UConn team at home that they almost beat on the road.

@Butler - Q2
Vill - Q1
UConn - Q1
@Xavier - Q1
Butler - Q3
Creighton - Q2
@DePaul - Q2
Xavier - Q1
@Marq - Q1

Nice win in a game they had to get.  Good to see Champy get back on track.  Gtown might be the worst team ive seen all year.  I cant believe they are that bad.

They will need to beat Butler then beat Nova for me to regain any type of excitement for this season.  Im not taking much from this game.

Duke, remember my pregame prediction?(Or hope LOL) Champ came back. Posh barely missed the double double and we won by 13 and not 15. I got one out of three!

Winning the next 3 games absolutely does not put us on the right side of the bubble. It's going to take a whole lot more than 2 quality wins to go from way off the radar to in the field. Regardless, it's far more likely we go 0-3 than 3-0.

The at-large ship sailed on Tuesday night. It's not happening. That said, it's not out of the realm of possibility that this team puts together a Georgetown style run over the course of 4 days at MSG in mid March. It's also possible we lose to Butler by 10 in the Wednesday night 8/9 game.

Not much to take away from this game other than the fact for 17 years Nathalie questions why I subject myself to torture and now we are 1-0 post marriage. At least it won't be a record divorce timing

hope you didn't spoil the honeymoon

We won a game against a bad team. It is what it is. We feast on bad teams except Pitt. We are nothing til we start beating good teams. Projecting a run at this stage is wild optimism. I’d like to see it happen but highly unlikely it does

Pros
  • Kids played full 40 minutes
  • Julian is back
  • Soriano improving
  • Rebounded the ball better
  • Wusu showed some signs of life
  • Mike got married and was still allowed to watched the game /media/kunena/emoticons/cheerful.png

Cons
  • Poor defense was camouflaged by a Hoya team that can't shoot
  • The win keeps us on life support but is meaningless unless we grab multiple big wins
