Couldn't watch the game because of work commitments but kept checking in on my phone. Just watched it. Much more relaxing to watch this team play when you already know the outcome.

We really needed a win and any road win in the Big East is a very good win. Encouraging to see LJ, Heron and Dunn all have good games on the same night. Think the guys will be amped up to get a crack at Nova in the Garden. Who knows?

Thrilled with the win, especially since I took the Johnnies getting 5. Heron and LJ gave us what we had been expecting from them all season. Having said that, I look upon this as one win and nothing more. Let’s hope we can grab 3 more wins along the way and get in to the NIT. If we do that, I’ll consider this season a big success.

Dunn and Williams in the backcourt is sold and exciting. Dunn has the slashing/dribble penetration down on the offensive end. In transition offense he is excellent. Once he develops a more consistent 3 point/jump shot he could become a real tough cover. His from is solid and his rotation on the ball is solid. Needs to twerk his release point slightly.

I stand corrected on that, but I don't think he played much. I never heard of him until this year. Calling him experienced, is like calling Roberts experienced.

You are right that Reed barely played his first year, but he played plenty last year (27 mpg); was one of their better players averaging 12 points, 9 rebounds and almost 2 blocks per game.

What was with some of the passing, some on this team have trouble enough catching the ball, a hard pass down at the knees, perfected by Champagnie, forget about it. Worst pass was by Earlington(think it was him)DePaul player was hurt, never made it back on defense, Johnnies with absolutely no court awareness at all, spread to the corners, when someone finally broke to the basket that passed it to the other team. It was awful to watch.

I'd love to see Champagnie put on 15-20 lbs in the off season and become more of an inside guy.

St Johns jumps to 66 from 81 in NET rankings after win at DePaul.

I couldn’t watch the game. Thanks for all the updates during the game and all the commentary after. Good to get a road win and now it’s on to Villanova at MSG where we play well. Fingers crossed. I will be at the Garden Tuesday.

I liked the five players at the end of the game which included Champagnie. He had 5 turnovers but came down with 11 boards and 5 blocks This only happened with Butz on the bench. Which brings me to why was Butz playing only 16 minutes, could it be because he was 3 for 9 from the foul line.
Still wondering why Sears got more minutes then Roberts and Earlington, must have stood out in practice.
Have to like the way we maintained the lead in the second half after DePaul closed the gap.
Looking forward to Nova at the garden.
Smaller lineup worked but they got killed at times on the boards. Part of the problem is guys not catching the ball, slapping at it instead. Sears was horrendous, cooking spray hands.

Smart move by coach not pressing so key players could get more minutes.

Fox sports needs to bring all the directors in and tell them to show the game while it's being played, not the crowd, not the cheerleaders, not the guy who just scored running back on defense. Missed a few plays today because of it, and it's becoming commonplace.

That airball by Caraher was just dreadful.
That's exactly why I was surprised Sears got so much playing time, couldn't hold on to the ball. And that stupid foul at half court didn't help either. I guess Steere is getting the message. .

Just watched the game on tape for the second time and came up with the following observations:
1 Game was played pretty much like all SJU big east games, SJU plays hard switching defense which results in De Paul getting good three point looks but they can't make them and puts De Paul on the foul line for thirty four attempts, fifteen more than SJU.
2 The two SJU team leaders, LJ and Heron perform as hoped for all year, making eleven of twenty one threes and shooting fifty per cent from the floor. The remaining red storm shoot their usual eighteen per cent from three
3 Since most of the other big east teams will shoot better than twenty five per cent from three LJ and Heron are going to have to carry this team which was the plan all along but hasn't panned out
Caraher has not shown me any reason to get BE time. He’s not hitting his shots and he’s just not athletic enough to keep up. His reflexes are too slow and he’s not even close to physical enough to be around the basket.

I’m also unclear why sears is getting time over Steere. Sears is a senior who’s not going to develop and can’t catch a pass. Steere at least should be getting the time so he can continue to develop into a player.

Not sure why Marcellus is allowed to shoot threes. That said his passing for a big guy is stellar imo. He always surprises me.

Looking forward to seeing our front court continue to develop, I just can’t remember the last time an SJU big actually got better from our coaching.
Right now Caraher is playing minimal minutes to give our guys a needed rest. He needs to be all alone to get off a shot.

First game I didn’t watch in a while. I was at my son’s track meet and almost forgot about the game but checked the score a few times in the second half. From the box score it looked like everything went our way, kind of the opposite of the Georgetown game. If we play hard against Villanova we should be in the game until the end. Need the game Super Bowl Sunday if we want the 16 regular season wins.

Keep giving the effort, stay within their own game, talk on defense, spacing on offense, and please limit cross-court passes.

Not going to be overly critical of a game where LJ lit it up and Heron played to form. A win is a win, and a road win even morese, but after those two and Dunn, though, we shot absolutely horridly. Thankfully, DePaul was absolutely dreadful, especially from three. Bottom line is we won an important road game, swept our first completed season series.

Overall we will have to play much better to defeat Villanova Tuesday. Still and all pleased with the result.

Anyone know if Roberts is in the doghouse? He started each half, plays 6 or 7 minutes, is replaced and never re-inserted. I know he was called out for effort earlier in the season, but I've been watching his play more closely and he does seem to be working hard and payed really well in the Seton Hall game. Played just 13 minutes in this game and was wondering if anyone had an explanation.

I don't recall Roberts ever being called out for lack of effort

I just don't think they want him out there, if the game is being called tightly. Not just for his own foul issues, but because they fear the Hack-a-Roberts strategy being used to good effect.

Frankly, we didn't need him on Saturday. Being minus-1 on the boards is pretty good for us, and DePaul got 3 or 4 rebounds with under a minute left, when the outcome had been decided.

I believe that he and Campagnie were called out by Coach, after the Georgetown game.

He just hasn't distinguished himself in Big East Play.
