Flew out to Chicago for the weekend and went to the game. What an awesome arena they have there. Good bounceback game from the squad we kept our composure during their little run. Fun game.
After you ummm drink some beverages go to Portillos for hot dogs
Best game of the season so far for the Heron and Figueroa tandem. When they click together in the same game every remaining game is winnable. 13 wins. 2 Big East wins and 10 more games to go before the Big East tournament. I firmly believe we can win 5 of the last 10 games if we start getting some contributions from the bench. Today we shared the ball and equaled a taller DePaul team on the boards. I remember Rasheem Dunn was an excellent rebounding guard while at Jefferson and his nose for the ball was evident today. This was a very good win considering we got minimal production from our bigs, especially our non playing Big who was supposed to start from day one over Roberts.
We didn’t see much of the Figgy floater or Heron driving into a brick wall

And then a side trip to Al’s Beef for a serious Italian Beef sandwich. Hangover food from the gods.

Great to continue to see our team scratch and claw for 40 minutes
Speaks volumes about the intestinal fortitude of our players and staff
It wasn't pretty but it was very effective
On to Tuesday - playing with house money against Villanova
Sometimes magical things happen at the World's Most Famous Arena
Here's hoping..........

True, but his defense (including 4 blocks) and rebounding (11) were outstanding.

Julian has far exceeded anyone's expectations for him this season
He looked like he was hitting the proverbial "freshman wall"
CMA's decision to have him come off the bench has paid off in spades

Very nice win! NIT is very much in play. Let's get another 3-4 wins and make this a successful season.

I know I sound as schizophrenic as most of you, but I think that we and DePaul should be better than we have played. SJU because of the intensity of the defense. DePaul because they have a decent point guard and good muscle and height inside.
Both teams showed today they have episodic periods of high caliber performance and then display poor choices on offense, dumb fouls, a rash of turnovers and seemingly lose concentration and confidence.
So I do think we are not as talented overall as most. I get frustrated with the horrific shooting and mistakes.. At the same time, I also sense we could have easily picked up a few additional wins and been right there with the mid-level grouping of the Big East.
At today's level of play, we would likely have lost to Villanova and Butler; but we would have been right in the game vs the rest. At least, the games are exciting this year.
I think both of these teams would have finished much higher, had they been playing in last year's Big East.

Moore and Reed are good, but they weren't on the team last year, and most of our guys are new, and/or they didn't play much last year.

The league this year, has more returning talent then in any year in recent memory. This was never the year to be starting over with a lot of new parts, no matter how talented they may be.
Reed was on DePaul the prior two years. If they had Moore last year in place of Gage, they could have challenged for BE title. I think they have had talent the last two years but don’t think Leitao has gotten most out of it.

Good win by the boys.

Liked us switching defense late.

CMA needs to rein in a couple of the guys...Earlington and Champ need to shoot from 8 feet and in until they improve from beyond.

Love the win today. Law of averages had to bring our shooting up.

One quick call out - I really don’t like Dunn and Rutherford on the floor at the same time. Two short guards that can’t shoot. Makes our offense very easy to stop.

Smaller lineup worked but they got killed at times on the boards. Part of the problem is guys not catching the ball, slapping at it instead. Sears was horrendous, cooking spray hands.

Smart move by coach not pressing so key players could get more minutes.

Fox sports needs to bring all the directors in and tell them to show the game while it's being played, not the crowd, not the cheerleaders, not the guy who just scored running back on defense. Missed a few plays today because of it, and it's becoming commonplace.

That airball by Caraher was just dreadful.

Caraher has not shown me any reason to get BE time. He’s not hitting his shots and he’s just not athletic enough to keep up. His reflexes are too slow and he’s not even close to physical enough to be around the basket.

I’m also unclear why sears is getting time over Steere. Sears is a senior who’s not going to develop and can’t catch a pass. Steere at least should be getting the time so he can continue to develop into a player.

Not sure why Marcellus is allowed to shoot threes. That said his passing for a big guy is stellar imo. He always surprises me.

Looking forward to seeing our front court continue to develop, I just can’t remember the last time an SJU big actually got better from our coaching.

I have been very impressed with Moore. Where did he come from?

Sears is a junior.

Oh got it. Thought this was his last year. Either way still think Steere should be playing over him.

High School teammate of Lovett. Averaged double figures his freshman year at Cal. Transferred to Kansas after sitting a year, played last year and was terrible. Hardship transferred to DePaul this year and is looking like he did at Cal.

Was he terrible last year or just buried on the bench?
