(POST GAME) Albany, Wed. Dec. 18, 8:30p, FS-1 / 970 WNYM

OOC has been a major success! I figured we'd get 8-9 wins, but 10 with a shot at 11 is excellent. This game should boost our NET a few spots as well.

All 10 of our wins, besides against #25 WVU, were by the NET maximum 10+ points.

To not have Heron or Steere and demolish Albany even when we can't shoot 3's is very impressive. In years past, it seemed that if any key player was out we could expect to almost always lose even against worse teams. Or at least it was way closer. Great sign as someone else said. Now we get to see how we do against the big boys after getting killed by ASU and winning a close one to #25 WVU. IMO we would not only need a healthy Heron, but we would need to shoot very well from 3 to keep up. Unlikely, but hey it's house money now. Going into conference play no worse than 10-3? In a rebuilding year with a new coach and no Ponds/Clark/Simon? Did anyone in their right minds expect this start?

Let's hope this wasn't all a dream and it translates at least somewhat once we play the real teams consistently. So far, just a great job starting out. If by some miracle we beat Arizona, we may even be in the conversation for a top 25 ranking. Who would have even thought?

Williams looking much better offensively. His off the ball and help defense was always strong. His on the ball defense in the full court is outstanding and he allows no dribble penetration in the half court. Keep improving.

"We are without Heron and Steere, not a good offensive team, yet are still smoking teams like Albany. This is an extremely good sign and indicative of a solid team."

Just doing what we're supposed to do, props to the team for taking care of business, and beating everyone we are supposed to.

Earl - 16 & 9-6offensive, 2blks, 2 steals best game to date.
Roberts -8 & 8-3 off, 4 blks
Champ -14 & 6

Now it's gonna be real from here out

when is the Arizona thread opening?

We are going to become increasingly attractive to top recruits who want to play in an uptempo style where they can play in NYC, play right away and win! Just super optimistic about where the program is headed right now.

I thought this was our best defensive game of the year. We may have had better stretches defensively (the middle of the second half against UMASS being the obvious one), but this was our best defensive performance for a full game.

Impressive win given the absence of Heron and Figueroa playing horrible offense. Shooting 4-17 against Albany is embarrassing and taking unorthodox shots is a big factor. In this game our best player was the least efficient on offense and it was encouraging that the second team carried the team. Special kudos to Marcellus, Williams Justin.

Other than Lavins first year I'm not even sure when I can remember a coach coaching players up ( realize Jarvis had great teams and sure he can get some credit but those kids were so good they could coach themselves )

Big game. We know our guys will fight. Due for a good shooting game maybe? Heron would help but he’s doubtful. Cut Mannon off. Key to the game. Make him work and make it tough. Keep him out of the lane. We will win if we do those things. Gotta win with tough D!

Marcellus making a lot of posters feel awfully foolish after writing him off based on garbage time minutes last season. I an seeing some Cecil Rellford in him. He really plays to his strengths.

With the exception of Bootsy hadn’t they all played together at Riverside?

That team had so much talent that even with Norm Roberts they would have made the tournament.

I'm very encouraged by the fact that the team played so well without Heron, and with LJ playing terribly. I think with another year of progression for the "other guys" and adding Posh, Cole, Wusu and Moore, even if LJ leaves we may be very dangerous next season. Gotta love having a coach who knows what they're doing.

Used to love Cecil R he was our George McGuiness. He and George Johnson made quite a tandem and they both went way up to block the shot of our soon to be own Reggie Carter in a big Alumni hall win over Hawaii.

Just back and what we witnessed tonight was a TEAM win. Albany's 2 leading scorers combined for 32/game before tonight when they combined to score TEN points. The team listened to the need to focus the defense on Clark and Healy. In pre-game warm ups Healy was hitting from all over the court. While we didn't shoot threes well, inside the arc we shot 60%. We had 4 players over double figures not named Heron and Figgy. Coach stresses everyone must be ready at all times and he gives them minutes so they are involved and ready. CMA continues to not suffer fools; you make a bone head play--you come out.
Sears contributed tonight and got more minutes. Caraher got the start and was on Healy right off the bat and did not cheat but stayed focused. Figgy, despite his worst night of shooting (4-17) contributed with 6 bounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. I so wished that Earlington could have gotten another rebound to get the double double.

This was an example of our depth taking the opposition out out the game by running them into the ground--even after an Albany made basket we were racing up court. Albany was running back every time we had a possession to get into their defense--there was no rest for the weary Danes tonight and our guys all played double digit minutes with the most being Figgy at 27.

I think we'll be very dangerous by this February.
Screw next year.
