(POST GAME) (#8 / #10) Villanova (MSG) Tues. Jan. 28, 6:30p, FS-1 / 570 AM

On my way home from the game. Dunn was the only guy who really came to play tonight. Earlington wasn’t bad either in his limited minutes. Williams needs to play more and Rutherford needs to play less. Even if it means Williams handling the ball a little more. I will live with that. Williams has much more upside offensively if he would get the chance and get more confidence and frankly I don’t think we give up much defensively between Rutherford and Williams. Figueroa is a chucker plain and simple Heron is hot and cold. Steere , Sears and Caraher need to go after this season and bring two more guys in here who fit the system.

I don’t know why we didn’t press all game? We got blown out anyway, at least go with our strength it was our only chance , we got blown out anyway. What happened to 40 minutes of hell? Maybe CMA needs his guys to fully implement the system? If that’s the case , then like I said, move guys out of here and get other guys in ASAP.
Not that it would not have made a difference tonight, but puzzled why Greg has not picked up a notch offensively at this point in season. Does a lot of little things, but frankly I expected him to be on a more positive track offensively. Hope he finishes strong & sets tone for a solid junior year.
Like most of our current players Williams is not good with the ball in his hands. He also has a difficult time with positioning. Of course Mustapha Heron is the best example of that deficiency. Tonight CMA just sat him in exasperation. The deficiencies and dearth of talent is exemplified by the players getting minutes as a result of the recruiting paradigm used by the previous staff where one non-coach was the point man for recruiting.
It is not surprising that Rasheem Dunn is the most complete player on this team.
Frankly I think we need to purge most of the actors recruited by Matt before we start to turn the corner.
Does anybody ever remember a game where the home team only attempted 4 free throws? And 2 of those came with about a minute to go. It's not like we weren't going inside either, at least in the 2nd half.
The ref are so far up Wright”s ass they call on a proctologist after every Villanova game

Dunn got hammered on final play of first half and there was no call

Went to the 911 museum so didn't see it, followed the score on my phone.
Back to old heron i see, 3 lousy pnts

Oh well on to g-town.

We need some knock down shooters, plain and simple. It is really unbelievable how many open shots and chippies we miss every single game.

He is an extreme liability on the offensive end of the court. He is not a great assist guy either. No scoring or No assists.Need to find more minutes for other players and give something up on the defensive end. He is a good kid who works hard, roots for his teammates and joined our program so I want him to succeed but sometimes change is necessary.
Paging Mr. Posh. Please report to the corner of Utopia and Union ASAP
in the meantime find more minutes for Williams, JC and Caraher. Mr Posh hope he fills it up.

The last two hires have been great. Cragg and Anderson give me hope; but I have been hoping for so long. Just getting harder to believe.
Understandable it's getting harder. I kinda felt that way after Georgetown beat our ass a few weeks ago.

The rest of this season and next year could possibly be telling. Some of us are getting too old for this madness, lol.
A rare miss for you MJD... Madness is what we need!

Alexander will be this generations Erick Barkley.

A tough NYC PG that will put in motion the culture change needed to end the losing mentality that has permeated this program for 20 years

As far as the very few foul shots SJU gets it seemed in a few games prior to De Paul the opposition will never foul our shooters. They not only won't contest any outside shots but seemed to try to avoid fouling on any shots putting SJU on the foul line. Until we show some ability to hit some shots that strategy will continue.
What has really become disappointing is the play of Roberts and Williams. I blamed Mullin for not giving them more playing time last year but now I can see why. No production.

Sadly I agree. I like all these kids which is the sad part. I hate to see this be a throw-away season, but with so little talent, and no offense, we simply can’t win quite a few of these games.

We are on the right track coaching-wise and I can see that mike Anderson gets these kids playing together. We are just woefully short on talent, especially offensively. More than just a few guys are not Big East level players.

Completely outclassed.Well we looked pretty good for a few minutes. As I previously posted in the pregame thread -can't double team and leave them open for threes.Just listen to Raferty, "Can't leave your man to help."
Too many bad passes, leading to 13 turnovers. The same amount Nova had.
Outstanding performance from Dunn. One of our few players who can finish at the rim. Talk about missed layups.
Wright had his team prepared for our pressure, one reason why he is coach of the decade.Of course Heron not showing up didn't help.
Something I didn't expect was blowout at the hands of Nova, especially since the majority of their Big East games were close.
Gee, even Roundtree scored against us.

I spoke to one of our brethren less than a week ago, and he said he'd rather move on from practically the entire team with the exception of two or three players.

Just to rub more salt in the wound and to give us an idea of the work facing the staff.
The Vill players who scored 79 points are all slated to return
They played tonight without one of their main contributors
One of their top recruits played seven minutes tonight as he gets into shape after a serious injury
This team will be one of their weakest teams over a six or seven year period

Glad to have missed tonight's game. Sounds like Dunn was the only bright spot. Four free throws at home? That huge win at MSG against West Virginia seems like it happened years ago...

He's averaging 4.9ppg on five shots per game....not sure what more you expect from the 6th or 7th option on offense.

He's also a hell of a hustler with the quickest hands on the team.

Was at the game tonight. Tough one.

Dunn came to play.

LJ was doing his best to make plays but he’s trying to do too much as the sole main offensive weapon with the season Heron is having.

What happened to the low post back you down guard we had last year in heron? He was dunking a ton more last year then this year. When have we seen that aggression this year? The loss of weight has seemed to change his game and it’s not for the better.

Still don’t like the Dunn / Rutherford lineup.

Where the hell is Steere already?

Champagne played really poorly tonight and truly lacked effort. Several times just staring at the ball in the air instead of rebounding. What is his 3 pt percentage? His game seems to be getting further away from the basket and I hope that doesn’t continue.

Great hands. He’s everywhere on D.
