I'm always leery of posters who only show up when they claim to have "inside info". Then they quickly disappear again. Those posters are different then the regular and well respected posters on this board-like Eric-who may from time to time have some inside info. I also hear things from time to time and pick and choose what to post on this board. I also don't reveal my sources or I'll never hear another thing from them.I live how people say I heard positive news or I hear this . We all know who has reliable sources . And those have gone into detail what they heard . I heard positive news about pitino too. Not gojng to tell you who or what. Ok I heard from multiple news reports all over that link Petino to sju come on now
I wasn’t a “Pitino guy” in the past either. I couldn’t stand how they had massive advantages by walking on the less clean side of recruiting. Now we have the NIL so all is on the up and up. Rick Pitino, go to town and get as much talent and money as you can flowing into SJU. Time to reclaim our spot near the top.You have prob explained it before (missed it) - but why aren't you a Pitino guy?

I know that there are degrees MCN, but you show me a successful coach and I'll show you a guy who walked(walks) on the less clean side of recruiting. And that includes the 2 most successful coaches of all time, Wooden and K. Nobody played the game better and smarter then those 2.I wasn’t a “Pitino guy” in the past either. Firstly, my post was in jest!Read my post again. What has a dedicated gourmet chef, 40 flat screen television, and a team hairstylist have to do with a poorly designed and cramped facility? Who cares whether you are concerned or not about players getting ponytails or their hair dyed (plenty of places n Queens and students o campus who can help them out) as again what the hell does that have to do with anything I posted?
Now since you brought up free throws, Stevie Thompson who played for Syracuse was IIRC around a 50% free throw shooter in games. They would shoot a 100 free throws in practice and his percentage was much higher. Apparently the more he shot, he would get in a repetitive mode and would get hot, something he wasn’t able to duplicate in game situations as they are different. A young Rick Pitino would run his teams through their drills and just before their water break or when at their most tired, make them shot free throws to replicate game situations.
Or just give Rick better recruiting $ & enriched NIL support which he will help withOn the subject of Pitino as new coach, remember the words of the Great Louie Carnessecca when asked for a predition on an oppenent; he said he wouldn't talk about it as it would "put the horns on him and the team". Maybe there is a time to tone down what one can't control and wait till the Fat Lady Sings.
They should have included a clause that no fee is due if Pitino is the hire.Watch, we paid the Search Firm a big fat Retainer that is non-refundable, and owe them a big fat % of the ultimate hire's aggregate salary, even if the search firm doesn't find the Coach (because Fr. Shanley found him without their help).
It figures, right?
I hope our legal eagles didn't let the School agree to those terms.
Yeah not sure why you would single out Pitino for that, you would then basically reject just about any high major coach with a great record which would leave you time and time again with risky bets.I wasn’t a “Pitino guy” in the past either. What makes anyone think they would know who Pitino is on their own?Watch, we paid the Search Firm a big fat Retainer that is non-refundable, and owe them a big fat % of the ultimate hire's aggregate salary, even if the search firm doesn't find the Coach (because Fr. Hello Bucket,
Let me say if you're needling me because every time I post that, I don't like Pitino I get lit up on this board. I got to say, it's a pretty good jape! If you're serious. I think he's a smarmy person. Successful for sure, but he's played fast and loose with the rules and when he's been caught it's been all excuses and no accountability. Same reason I wouldn't hire someone from Bear Stearns to head up my investment bank. Sure they might make a lot of money, until they don't and the fall is hard.
So my one sentence reason is. I think he has as much chance as getting us to the sweet sixteen as he does getting us banned from post season play.
RSR, you mean as opposed to us banning ourselves from postseason play?Hello Bucket,

I think just not wanting the guy around because of his past is fine. We all have our own feelings about that stuff. I do think, if you really are worried about the go-forward, that it's a needless worry. Not because I know of any particular change in Pitino, but because the NCAA has basically tossed up their hands and everything goes now.Hello Bucket,

I agree that Pitino is a great coach. He is better than Calipari any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I agree that he is a better coach than all the coaches you mentioned, except Bobby Knight. If we are going to evaluate Pitino strictly on his coaching ability, then Knight should be evaluated in the same way. I have always been a big Bob Knight fan. This is not to suggest Pitino can't recruit or doesn't get high level players. He does of course. But this is a myth that he only wins with those players.
And this is not to be a Pitino apologist for some of his personal baggage which he definitely has.
But this is not a controversial statement, he maybe the best pure coach of his generation. And many will tell you that. Give me any 10 guys and give me a week to prepare them for a big game and then give me any coach to pick, I am picking Rick. Over K, Dean Smith, Knight etc...
A few years back Jim Boeheim was on Center Stage on YES with Michael Kay and he gave him a hypothetical, it's Monday in April and you are playing for the National Championship. You look down the other end, who is the ONE COACH YOU DO NOT WANT to face?
He did not hesitate, he said Rick Pitino.
