Ponds

SJU will certainly benefit from a Ponds return and both SJU and Ponds will benefit if he is able to improve his three point selection attempts and accuracy.
I don't have the figures but his two point field goal percentage must have been much better than his three point percentage and his ability to get fouled near the basket and his outstanding foul shooting made those attempts a much better choice. He knows he will have to improve his three point shooting to make the pros.

Yeah, Shamorie shot ~51% from 2-pt range versus 49% in 2016-17, while his 3-pt shooting plummeted to 25% versus 37% in his first year, on fewer attempts: 186 last year compared to 200 in his freshman year.
And that improved 51% 2-pt shooting was on 350 attempts against 235 2-pt attempts as a freshman.
His FT % improved to ~86% last year versus 82% in 2016-17.
He carried the whole load for us last year.
We must realize that.
The kid is a great Johnny.
Next season should be different on many fronts.
Should be fun to watch.

Ponds is not a 20% 3 pt shooter. He is a scorer that is the team relies on so much that he is forced to take the impossible shots. What we are down by 6 with 30 seconds left? Ponds dribble and try to do the impossible. There's 3 on the shot clock? Get it to Ponds and see what he can do. It's a no win situation for his shooting %.

Ponds will make a lot of money playing basketball somewhere some time in the future.
This is exactly why the team stunk. There was one game this past season where Ponds wasn't on the floor and I thought we were doomed. Instead the ball movement was the best I saw all year, everyone was focused and involved and it showed in the results. Yeah Ponds had a great 3 or 4 game stretch sandwiched between a lousy year. Freshmen Ponds was much better then Sophmore Ponds. Oh and Those 25 footers early in the shot clock especially when you're shooting 20% should not be allowed by the coaching staff
St. John's before Ponds 8-24. St. John's after 14-19 then 16-17. Instead of trying to tear down our best player maybe we should try to recruit some help for him.

And for the record we were 1-2 without Ponds playing and 15-15 with him. So I guess I agree with you the results speak for themselves.

Another fun fact: Our best stretch of games was in the first half of Feb. We lost a nail biter to #6 Xavier then went on 4 game winning streak that included vs Duke and at Villanova. In those 5 games Ponds played all 200 minutes, averaged 32 pts, 5.2 rebs, and 5 assists a game.

Really hope Ponds comes back, because without him I just don't see how we seriously compete for an NCAA berth. If he can keep his FG% around where it was last year and get back to his freshman yr (or better) 3PT%, we will really be setup nicely assuming we also get significant contributions from Simon, Clark, and Dixon. I've seen Dixon up close shooting in scrimmages and games are obviously different, but he has a butter-smooth stroke and I think he has the chance to really impress people with his shooting touch from 3. If he can consistently make 3's like Clark, it adds another threat to help clear the way for Ponds. If they double Ponds and collapse on him going into the paint, he can kick it out. Hopefully we can drive, kick, and make the extra pass like Nova has perfected. If Fig can stroke it the way he has in JUCO, then that's another guy who can help clear lanes for Ponds.

I think he is coming back also. He has a month before he has to decide. I think he knows down deep that another year will help him get into the first round. Right now he is out and about keeping his name out in the press, He is in a win-win position right now, Then when the decision has to be made he will announce his return. Holy crap am I praying I am right.

Paultz.....classic way to describe what you're sensing. Just wanted you to know some got it.

A couple of questions.

1) Who is that guy in the photo?
2) Is this a movie or tv show?
3) What is the reference I’m missing?

* I would greatly appreciate it.
