Things change in a blink, but Shamorie's last quote sounds like he may be realizing he may not be drafted this year in the 1st 2 rounds, and he'll gain experience, exposure, and credibility, having a great last college run and leading St. John's into the NCAAs.
Let's hope so on all counts.

Disagree with this post. Shamorie went from 3 assists per game to nearly 5 per game, hardly a ball stopper, not to mention first team all BE. Teams collapsed on him last year because once Lovett left they could do so. That will not be the case next year - watch how he plays. We will be incredibly fortunate when he returns for another year!

Ponds is not a 20% 3 pt shooter. He is a scorer that is the team relies on so much that he is forced to take the impossible shots. What we are down by 6 with 30 seconds left? Ponds dribble and try to do the impossible. There's 3 on the shot clock? Get it to Ponds and see what he can do. It's a no win situation for his shooting %.
Ponds will make a lot of money playing basketball somewhere some time in the future.

This is exactly why the team stunk. There was one game this past season where Ponds wasn't on the floor and I thought we were doomed. Instead the ball movement was the best I saw all year, everyone was focused and involved and it showed in the results. Yeah Ponds had a great 3 or 4 game stretch sandwiched between a lousy year. Freshmen Ponds was much better then Sophmore Ponds. Oh and Those 25 footers early in the shot clock especially when you're shooting 20% should not be allowed by the coaching staff

Shamorie Ponds is a great Player by any criteria . He was suppose to be partners in a Guard Oriented offense with Lovett. Likely would have been good for 35-40 points a game and the highest scoring duo in College Basketball . When that didn’t happen, a lot more was cast on Ponds to score more, play PG, rebound, etc . Sure, he forced a lot of shots because until Clark found the range in Mid Season, Ponds was the Main Man offensively . Simon struggled with his outside shot for much of the season and defenses gave him that from 15 feet all year . No, Ponds showed he could nearly beat almost any top ranked team by himself . He torched Duke and Villanova and was the guy every team needed to stop. It rarely happened . He could be BE Player of the Year in 2018-19. And , a All American pre season selection .
I don't understand why anyone would have negative comments about Ponds' play. He's played 2 years of D1 ball and he will improve his long range shooting, etc. If we could recruit others with his basketball IQ and skills, I'd jump on the opportunity. Hope he returns to prove me correct.

Agreed thetux1, there were times at the beginning of last season that watching Ponds was very frustrating. Ball movement would just stop when it hit his hands. But I think that also had a lot to do with what was around him. As other posters have mentioned, LoVett was supposed to be the PG and primary ball handler last season and he ditched. Simon looked very rough around the edges at the beginning of last season with his handle. But then once Ponds got injured, I think it forced other guys to step up and they really did. Personally, I'd love to see Ponds, Simon, and Clark on the floor together next year. I think with a year under their belt playing together, they will be a really nice trio in the Big East. I still have my concerns about who exactly will be rebounding the ball for them, but I think those 3 will lead them to the NCAA's for sure.

People, or posters rather, get weird when we are in situations like this. Some people come one here and weirdly plead and beg players to come or stay here. Others, apparently now like to bash them and say they're not talented and won't cut it in the NBA, in a way to try and keep them here too. It's odd and weird to me.

Having said that, Shamorie was and will be the least of our problems unless he decides to leave, in which case he will be our biggest problem.
