Pointer

The thing about Dom is that he isn't just doing this on a torrid streak, like Hardy's senior year run. He is bringing high energy, blocking shots, running the floor, and filling a stat sheet. Even if he isn't a premier offensive player, he is an intriguing player to consider 2nd round. If only he were 6'8 or taller.

One of the announcers (I think it was Donny Marshall) said Dom was a first rounder during last night's Nova/Hall game.

Kevin O'Neill said it between games.

Kevin O'Neill is drunk 75% of the time.

I think a team may take a chance on Dom in the 2nd round. I am not comparing Dom to the following players, just noting height and position........

Charles Barkley 6'6"

Dennis Rodman 6'7"

While discussing our matchup tomorrow, Kevin O'Neill said that Dom is playing his way into the first round of the draft. High praise there for a kid that almost got redshirted to begin this year

Not trying to put down Dom but Kevin is drunk on every telecast. Amazes me how guys like him and Wentzel have jobs

Couldn't agree more; I know Wenzel from his Rutgers days and he always left you wondering what the heck he was talking about - he has the rare ability to have a different conversation than you are even in a one on one. O'Neill is just embarrassing; everyone in the Fox sports division must have called in sick the day he auditioned.

I believe Pointer has had a terrific run this season and has contributed to several wins by his performance. Especially in those games where DLO was hampered by injuries.

While I think the stream of accolades on his behalf have been accurate to a point, projecting him as a NBA first rounder is more heartfelt than objective.

i shudder when he tries to go coast to coast and loses his handle, instead of giving the ball up to a trailer or spot up shooter. It happens a lot and almost cost us against Xavier on 3 straight trips.

I can't help but , wonder why Lavin took 4 years to find the right role for Dom .. I guess Steve preferred Sampson as his front court star and wasn't able to blend the team to best advantage.

I hope Dom has a big performance tonight against G'town as we will need all parts contributing.
Pointer plays better when CO is on the bench for reasons I cannot fathom but, its' just my observation.

I was thinking Iman Shumpert on the defensive end. Shumpert cant shoot either he just isn't shy about hoisting up shots

Interesting.

Was this public information that they considered red shirting Dom this season?

Lavin mentioned it a few weeks back.

I thought it came from Marillac.

Please DO NOT put those thoughts in his head. That's the last thing in the world we need for him to boost his ego even more :)

Lavin could tell me the sky is blue and I wouldnt believe him though. Some of the things he says to press is flat out lies so sorry I might not buy this. I

Dom credited his coach for the growth of his game this season. He also pointed out maturity as the a primary reason behind his leap this season. I take him at his word.

It is great to see the people paid salaries by major networks to analyze these kids giving him kudos.

By the way, Dom's drives to the hoop in the second half helped win that game Saturday. They don't win that game and they don't win the Cuse game without it. It's a big part of his game this season. You take a couple of TO's to get the returns in the form of kick outs and points he puts on the board. Check out his assist numbers throughout his career.

If you were a college basketball fan watching St. John's for the first time Saturday, you would be left with the impression that Dom was one of the best players in the country. Especially if you just watched the second half. The guy always gives up inches and weight, but still hangs in or gets the best of bigger players. His hands are everywhere, and he blocks shots by centers. Not just any shots, but open layups saving 2 points. He then can run the floor himself and finish in traffic. Never saw this coming.

The team also appeared to be well coached and played team basketball as they have done all year. Announcer Wenzel mentioned this a number of times during the telecast . I tend to ignore the comments by ex coaches who only say good things about current coaches but I watched the game today without sound and SJU played a game that they were well prepared for in a difficult environment.

1st team all big east?

Yes

If he keeps it up the rest of the way, yea, I'd agree.

So is that going to push Harrison off of the first team, or is there a way we get two on the first team? I don't see how they could leave the 2nd leading scorer off the 1st team. Interesting that we have 4 of the top 15 scorers in the conference.

I have been Redmen fan for nearly 50 years
Dom is one of the most exciting players I have ever seen at St John's
Sometimes it's great Dom, sometimes good Dom, sometimes not so good Dom
Regardless, he's been a lot of fun to watch and makes things interesting
Whether you like him as or not, he always gives 100 percent effort on the floor
