Point guard

Can someone give me a clue as to our PG depth chart. One is out for the year with injury and another was just ruled ineligible by the wise and powerful NCAA so who is left?

Williams?

?

?

This is the most important position and we just lost 2 guys in the last week

Rutherford. Let’s hope Williams gets better, even though he’s not a true point guard.

There is none. Dunn decision pretty much ends the year, before it even starts, IMO.

I just hope it doesn't end the Anderson era, before it starts. I don't believe that he has any designs on leaving, but I do believe that we are now looking at a single digit win season, overall, and I also believe that, with most of the newbies presumably coming back next year, that losing breeds more losing. It's also tough to ask a fanbase, whose team hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game in 20 years, to remain patient.

For the record, I'm not ripping Anderson in any way, shape, or form. I'm ripping the situation. I just feel that this particular decision could have major ramifications long term.

Kind of expected the Steere ruling, but never thought we would go 0 for 2. For the first time in the last decade-plus, my enthusiasm for the new season is gone before the first exhibition.

Is there any precedent for this kind of decision? Sitting out a 2nd straight year after his coach was fired? What is the freaking point?

The fact that Figgy had 8 assist against a tournament team shows that it’s not the end of the world. But that’s messed up how the NCAA did us.

No way of spinning this, it hurts in terms of adding scoring and handling ball. Moving away guys like Heron & Figgy from their strengths to compensate for this travesty is not a plus imo. Shocked by the waiver denial for a kid who already sat out a year. Punitive to say the least.

I just hope he doesn't pull a Ponds from last year, and start being TOO unselfish. That would not do us much good.

Playing Figgy at point forward is not a plus but might be a necessary at some times. If Williams doesn’t recover fully , we are in real trouble. Will have no depth at the guards.

And, from all accounts, it sounded like Dunn was going to be our third scorer. Losing a PG who would also be counted on to score on a team that had a thin roster to begin with is certainly problematic.

If we lose Dunn, my optimism for this season decreases. I really thought that we had a shot at finishing in the "low middle" of the pack. If the appeal is denied, we are more likely to be at / near the bottom.

Only one solution: Dunn. We need to win the appeal.

There is no precedence to punish a student athlete with a two year ban. Any attorney worth his place in hell should easily bring the NCAA to task in public by exposing past and current bias in favor of Power 5 schools. Time for the hunted to become the hunter. We shall now see if Cragg has the chops needed to protect his players from such blatant bias.

If the season is lost because a last minute addition from a mid major is lost then the epilogue of the last four years of utter mediocrity at every level has obviously been lost on some. A 5th consecutive year of being picked at the bottom of the league is a sad indictment for this administration.

The season took a turn for the worse because 2 of our 3 pgs, the most important position on the team , are unable to play this season. Again as has been pointed out many times we have a professional staff in place. If there is anyone who doesn’t think this staff did not start searching the juco ranks for players who will be eligible at Christmas, kids doing an extra year in prep school, Europeans ,etc you are mistaken. They are not going to just roll over.
I feel terrible for a gréât kid who really doesn’t deserve this. He is a very good student studying commerce and is the model student athlete. He is very humble off the court and close with his mother , an NYC cop. The NCAA is really punishing the wrong kid. Very sad for all involved.

It's O'Connell time. Once he shakes the rust off he can at least get the ball over midcourt.

Al, this basically ensures us having a losing season. We have no depth at guard and more importantly do not have another PG to go with Rutherford. I thought decisions such as these were behind us with the hiring of such a respectable AD as Cragg. Obviously , they are not behind us. Even is we win an appeal he kid will miss 15 games. This is a disaster. Is there any type of expedited arbitration in situations such as these? Takes the air out of the entire season! Oh well.

FWIW and likely not much, Justice Hill, former CMA recruit who sat out a year at Arkansas, will play this season for Salt Lake CC and have 3 years of eligibility in D1 following this year.
Obviously doesn't help us in the here and now.

It truly is sad. The corruption and abject greed that is the NCAA is obviously well documented for all to see, them not giving a rats a$$ about players/students is to be expected, hypocrisy is SOP for them.
However, not to get too melodramatic, but how does a grown man, namely the Cleveland State AD, look himself in the mirror, face his own kids, his parents and siblings, after doing something this cruel, because I can’t think of any other way to describe it. He gains nothing by standing in Dunn’s way except “revenge”. Did his parents teach him to be this mean and petty? Are his wife, kids, brothers and sisters, friends all impressed and equally as mean spirited and vengeful? Cruelty for cruelties sake is something that is very hard to understand no matter how it is applied and while this is only basketball, to have a young mans future in a very real degree in your hands and to go out of your way to do the “wrong thing” just leaves me astonished.
