The point of me mentioning he was a BC grad is some on here have said that SJU would never hire a Jewish coach. It's BS and he's familiar with catholic schools as BC is his alma mater.
However again reading that it seems he's pretty comfortable down there in Tenn with sporadic trips to Bristol CT
Seth Davis' take:
Here's the deal on St. John's: They have too many good defenders who can't score and too many scorers who can't defend. Might be the most disappointing team in the country (at least this week).

Also, main feature is on Bruce Pearl.
Takeways:
- So a school can still hire Pearl but would have to petition the NCAA to show their reasoning.
- Pearl (who is Jewish) graduated from a Catholic University in BC (So forget this SJU won't hire a Jewish guy routine)
- Seems like Pearl is pretty happy down in Tenn and not really interested in moving.
Your summary is very presumptuous!
Why is Pearl's religion mentioned on this site every time his name comes up?? It is 2014 not 1962. St. John's would be violating a few laws if this was a reality but just the suggestion makes SJ look bad.
If he is interested in ever coaching again he will move in a NY minute with the right offer.
I would not be surprised if BC reached out to him some day since he is an alum.
St. John's does have a history of hiring RC coaches but most of the players are not RC so what difference does it make?
Mike Jarvis was a non-practicing Catholic when in NY and now attends an evangelical church in Florida. Did it make any difference when he was our coach?
Duke, a great basketball school and one of the best universities in the world has strong ties to the United Methodist Church and its most famous structure is the Methodist Chapel yet they have had a Catholic coach for over 34 years.
When the time comes I am interested in a candidate who can recruit and coach..period!
