Please no more NCAA talk

@StJohnsBBall: #SJUBB's official NCAA RPI as of today is 97, per @ncaastats. SOS is 33.

Let the season play out. There are still 13 games plus the big east tournament. Just watch them damn season, or don't, those are your choices. One game at a time.

Thanks for letting me know my choices. I am going to watch the damn season. I jus think the at large talk is silly. Even if we won out the regular season (which won't happen) I think we are on the outside of the bubble.

23 wins won't make the tournament? plus the big east tournament You are crazy its what have you done for me lately in the NCAA teams that get hot late are teams they want playing for a title. You are just don't believe in the team we have, or the coach. This team is not a finished product, I think we don't have any time and need to get some wins and some big ones, but I honestly think this team will start to win. But until then stop worrying about the tournament and start worrying about SH. One game at a time.

I love a team that comes out of nowhere, but they need to start winning on Thursday.

When you are 0-5 in the Big East, and every single team above you has shown they can compete with anyone, we have no right at this point to even discuss this. We should close the thread until we approach .500. Until then, it's self evident.

At large talk is silly, but if STJ tears off 14 in a row to end the regular season they would be inside the bubble.

If we win 13 games we can talk. We don't have enough chances for quality wins to make the last 13 matter which is why I think the at large talk it silly. This teams only real chance is to win the be tourny.

Looking at how well some of the teams that were expected to finish at the bottom are playing against supposedly better opponents, winning even 8 out of the remaining Big East regular season games is going to be a considerable challenge.

Seth Davis' take:

Here's the deal on St. John's: They have too many good defenders who can't score and too many scorers who can't defend. Might be the most disappointing team in the country (at least this week).

Also, main feature is on Bruce Pearl.

Takeways:

- So a school can still hire Pearl but would have to petition the NCAA to show their reasoning.
- Pearl (who is Jewish) graduated from a Catholic University in BC (So forget this SJU won't hire a Jewish guy routine)
- Seems like Pearl is pretty happy down in Tenn and not really interested in moving.

Your summary is very presumptuous!
Why is Pearl's religion mentioned on this site every time his name comes up?? It is 2014 not 1962. St. John's would be violating a few laws if this was a reality but just the suggestion makes SJ look bad.
If he is interested in ever coaching again he will move in a NY minute with the right offer.
I would not be surprised if BC reached out to him some day since he is an alum.
St. John's does have a history of hiring RC coaches but most of the players are not RC so what difference does it make?
Mike Jarvis was a non-practicing Catholic when in NY and now attends an evangelical church in Florida. Did it make any difference when he was our coach?
Duke, a great basketball school and one of the best universities in the world has strong ties to the United Methodist Church and its most famous structure is the Methodist Chapel yet they have had a Catholic coach for over 34 years.
When the time comes I am interested in a candidate who can recruit and coach..period!

Didn't St. John's have some Jewish players in the early days of the program?

Yes and when we were a Brooklyn based college many Jewish kids from Brooklyn attended and many graduated from our Law School.

St. John's has always had Jewish students and players. Historically, the pharmacy school and law school had many Jewish students. They've never had a Jewish priest yet. Alan Seiden was Jewish, and Billy Crystal's dad pitched for the baseball team while in law school.

"They've never had a Jewish priest yet.". LMAO!!
As Kinky Friedman sang "They ain't making Jews like Jesus anymore".
All our early apostles were Jewish!

My father went to SJU in the mid 40s on the GI bill. We are Jewish and I asked him about it. He said there were plenty of Jews going there.

Back in the day, a large number pharmacists coming out of St. John's were either Italian or Jewish. Jewish students have always been welcomed at St. John's. When I was in school in the 70s, Jewish students were permitted to opt for Jewish theology courses as part of the 9 credit theology requirement. Not sure when that accommodation was instituted. the dean of students was Donald Schrieber, who was Jewish.

The point of me mentioning he was a BC grad is some on here have said that SJU would never hire a Jewish coach. It's BS and he's familiar with catholic schools as BC is his alma mater.

However again reading that it seems he's pretty comfortable down there in Tenn with sporadic trips to Bristol CT
