The more he talks, the more full of s_ _ t he sounds
Some of you guys need to get a life. Read the article and the quote there is literally nothing controversial or necessarily false about what he said.
"...get a life"? Nothing just a tad bit more original? Anyhow, I call BS on a lot of what RP says. He reeks of sleaze. He really plans on finishing his career at Iona??? Yeah, ok. You may believe that. I don't. I'm actually shocked that he hasn't yet called Iona "my dream job". Or uttered that oft used line by Iona coaches. Ya know, the one where the coach(Valvano, Kennedy, etc etc) introduce themselves to someone as the coach of Iona college, and the other person says "you own a college???".

Look, Pitino is a great basketball coach, and also a silver tongue. He is charismatic, and the silver tongue, while often not just bending the truth but shattering it, has served him well.

He is a born salesman, the kind that will do or say anything to get the deal done. As a coach in the sales process, it's easy for a recruit to fall in love with him. He can tell a pretty good story about all the talented guys he coached up to become NBA players. He can woo a kid telling him he will be an important part of a top team. He still has this boyish charm, although the years have diminished that somewhat. And no question he is one of the best coaches of all time, even when you remove the success he had due to improper behavior. And of course there are the personal transgressions.

Great coach, no, not just a great coach. Over his career he has been a phenomenal coach who has every element of what is required to be an incredible coach - X's and O's, recruiting, managing young kids. It's just too bad he crossed the line because he soiled what would otherwise be an absolutely brilliant career even with a little less winning.
Speaking of character, didn't Derek Caracter play for Pitino at Louisville?
Yes. Even he could not fix him.
