Got something better to talk about these days?

I guess I would be shocked if there was not this level of interest.
1. He is a native New Yorker
2. He recruited NY well in the past.
3. He coached the Knicks
4. He won an NCAA championship with 2 different schools.
5. He took the smallest BE school to the Final Four.
6. He has a great coaching tree.
7. He was hired by a local school.
8. He was hired by a fellow Catholic school.
9. Every move he makes will be thrust in our face given the proximity of Iona to SJU.
10. Iona is getting games on our supposed home court, MSG.
11. He is reaching out to many of the same kids that we are desperately hoping to get commitments from, please see the Kyle Cuffe Jr. thread.
12. General paranoia of being a St. John’s fan.
13. He has secured as many commitments to Iona in the last 2 weeks as our staff has obtained in the 11 months that CMA has been on the job.

Those are the immediate positive reasons as to why the Rick Pitino thread has only generated 35 pages so far, which thread will only continue to grow in length for as long as he is at Iona College.
I will not discuss his character or past transgressions which have been repeatedly documented, and I have no interest in rehashing same.
Other than 1 or 2 posters the majority of the posts have been very civil and well thought out.

I am delighted with CMA as our coach and would not trade coaches with Iona, but I can see how Slick Rick would and will continue to generate a ton of interest on a message board, especially this board.

What a hoot. Just checked out Pitino's coaching record and he was 2 - 4 with Hawaii in '75 - '76...his only losing tenure as coach in his career!
Who knows what he'll achieve at Iona but he'll likely succeed and be copy for the NY Media, which back-in-the-day would've gnawed at me, worrying about St. John's.
Not anymore.
We're in great hands with CMA.

He is definitely a lighting rod, I’ll give him that much. This thread will wind up being hundreds of pages once the season starts.

Let he who is without stones excuse the first sin.

If you think this thread is bad, wait until Fordham hires Jim Calhoun.

Boy for someone who only wins because he cheats at recruiting he might be the only one in America who needs to pay 2 and 3 star kids because he gets an awful lot of them.

It's a man crush thing. He's also easy to identify with for those that are into nice designer suits, Italian shoes, strippers and of course the ultimate fantasy of banging your friend's hot wife in an Italian restaurant.
It may be just a rumor that I started but he ended the tryst by saying to his assistant who was waiting to drive him home "leave the condom..... take the cannoli ".

His 80-81 BU team went 13-14. That's his only losing season as a college coach, not counting the Louisville wins that were vacated.

You guys are funny. A MAAC team is not going to get ranked unless they are undefeated in mid February. Good luck to him but I don't see it.
if he's there in 3 years we bet a lobster roll I'm saying he hits top 25 1 week minimum
You get a lobster roll. I get a Chile Relleno burrito. You're on dude. Hope all's well with you and Nat!

We will be happy when it's all over but now it's giving me great excuses to get out of 50th bday parties and was able to get my first lobster roll of the season today at a contactless takeout in Montauk :)

You sure you’re a SJU fan Fordham?

Are you? What is your definition of a fan? Make up ridiculous arguments about a legendary coach so as to make yourself better because that coach does not coach at SJU?

For all those that want to take shots at Pitino, it is not a good idea to bet against him. He even wins his wrestling bets !

I was on record as wanting to hire Pitino last year and I love Mike Anderson. It is possible to do both.
