Ouch;

@YahooForde: Plenty ails high-major college hoops in the NYC area, but this may be the cure: Hire a Hurley. Or two.

Truth hurts.......would love to get a Hurley.

Please, no Masiello.

Jordan is not a Big 10 caliber coach. I think Rutgers goes hard for one of the Hurley boys next year.
I have become almost ambivalent as to the next coach and do agree that a string of basketball bad luck has been our one constant more than lousy coaching. Had Thomas and Adonis qualified and no injury to Harrison and Obekpa I don't think being 20-6 would be out of the question and all the coaching nonsense would be less.

“You need the kind of people skills where you can relate to everyone,” Fraschilla said. “From Wall Street bankers to AAU guys to the handlers to the high school coaches – anybody who will influence kids to stay home. Politician sounds like a negative word, but you do need to be able to get along with all kinds of people. Because in New York, all those people are part of the basketball culture.”

Hysterical!!! Forde praises him but forgets to mention his people skills included exhibiting his onions to his players. Then when he gets to that big state school he longed for he gets fired once again.

I'm fairly certain that Pat Forde just read one of this boards many coaching threads. 2 things, 1. all three teams mention already have a coach. 2. Any half a fan could name all the area coaches. There is nothing new or investigative here.

ill always have a soft spot for Fran....love Lav but something about Frannie

Fran is the only St. John's coach that I didn't like. Always rubbed me the wrong way. Of course, I rooted for him every day that he was our coach.

My preference is still to keep Steve. I think the program has taken positive steps forward with him as the coach. But my stance has not changed: make the tournament or you're out. Every team suffers injuries and has poor recruiting classes. But Lavin has had very good teams both last year and this year. If you can't get a tournament berth with guys like Sampson, Harrison, and Pointer, then I don't see how he could do it with the next group.

Fran made some mistakes no doubt, but he was the only coach we've had here since Louie who could navigate the landscape, recruit and coach. Certainly if we were willing to take a chance that Lavin learned from the error of his ways after years in the TV booth, we should be willing to do the same for Fran. And as a Catholic University we should be willing to offer a second chance. I say we put out a feeler to FF and see where it goes. Whatya guys say?

What do I say?
I say that Frannie had a second chance
It was called New Mexico
He screwed up that gig as well
Frannie does a good job at ESPN
At this point of his career, that's where he belongs

No more ESPN retired/fired coaches please! The next coach if Lavin is not renewed needs to be an active coach with a track record and high energy for recruiting. That means no more Frannies, Lavins, and especially no Norm Roberts or Brian Mahoney. It also means we would need to pay more than Lavin's current salary. Names like Josh Pastner and Archie Miller fit that definition. There are only a half dozen coaches that would be available at that level and salary. Danny or Bobby Hurley would be on the next 6 list. I have little confidence our current AD has the smarts to find the right coach but one positive is we will not be hampered by a Vincention priest thinking cheaper is better.

If next year is going to feature the "doomsday roster" like some on here think, then why would any of those coaches come here? They'd be much better off staying where they are.

Great piece. I've been thinking more and more about Cluess. He's won at all his stops.

Cluess? He's D'Antoni with the knicks, no def.
No ty.

I'll admit that of the two, I'd take Dan Hurley over Cluess. But I still don't get why people are that turned off by Tim. The guy has won wherever he's gone. I get that fans are skeptical whether his system would work at the next level. But I don't see why not.

I thought this guy at the Post knew this program till I read this. Fran? Is he serious? New Mexico imploded.
