On the bright side. . .

All the optimism being expressed about how far the Program has and is progressing is fine and some are satisfied with a 5th place finish, blow out loss to Robt. Morris.

I recall many of the same posters here supporting NORM AND HIS 'progress," right up to his firing.

The issue for us and those who are satisfied is this, name 1 game in which Lavin outcoached his opponent, rallied the troops to a come from behind Win and, had in game strategies for dealing with everyone's ZONE DEFENSE.

after you ponder this for a while, please share with the rest of us. Unlike players who should improve their game, despite ours to the contrary, does anyone expect STEVE to improve his Coaching? He's had a lifetime to show us some skill and, neither us or UCLA fans have seen it.

Anka did write and offer a song but the powers that be thought "Having My Baby" was inappropriate for a catholic university.

You say that in jest, but when I was in school, one afternoon Father Cahill was waltzing through the St. John's Hall lounge. WSJU was broadcast in student lounges back then. On the radio, Billy Joel's "Only the Good Die Young" was playing, and Cahill, hearing the lyric "Come on Virginia, don't let me wait, you Catholic girls start much too late" made a beeline for the student center, and promptly banned Billy Joel's music from the radio station.

True story.

I deejayed at a radio station in upstate New York where the owner banned "Having My Baby". That didn't prevent her from trying to talk anyone she could into going into a hot tub with her in our birthday suits. Go figure.

Joe, who are these many posters who supported Norm right up his firing? Can you name one?

Lavin's disapproval isn't comparable to Norm's at all. I don't think that the Lavin supporters are satisfied (at least in my case) with where we are as a program but realize that getting rid of Lavin may not be the smartest move right now. No he is not the best in game coach in the world, not close. But to think that our offense is completely stagnant with a man like Gene Keady on the bench leads me to believe that our current situation can't be blamed completely on coaching. If Norm's players can score 90+ against Duke in Lavin's system it can't be. I think this team has a ton of low iq players which has more to do with our struggles than anything IMO. I would like to see him get some more high iq players which it seems he is doing w/ players like sheed and hopefully* players like Briscoe & Diallo in '15
I will admit though, after watching Manhattan I would LOVE Masielo at St. John's. I'm just not ready to give up on Lavin yet, at least unless we are having this talk next year with no top 30 commits for '15.

On the bright side.... I don't recall seeing the "weave" during our offensive sets too many times this season....
I'm happy that's gone.

That's about all I can add to this conversation about seeing a brighter side to things...
