On the bright side. . .

The bright side for me was getting to meet some awesome SJU fans from Redmen.com over the course of the season. To the guys that were there for the Wisconsin viewing party, the ones at the Seton Hall & Villanova road trips, the Big East tournament & even last nights debacle, you guys are the heart & soul of the this program. As frustrating as this season was, we need to turn the page on this season & channel our energy for 2015.

Remember the name of our fight song...."Fight For Old St. John's"

Do we have a fight song? Serious question. Every time I hear Michigan's (and to a lesser extent, ND's), I envy them.

Overall capability aside, you have to like his attitude. Suspect Lavin promised him more time if he can convince his roomie to stick around a while. Kidding.

@maxthehooper: Thank you to all the #SJUBB fans who supported us this season. It was quite a ride! The future is bright without a doubt.

Misused all season.

Dropping 10 3s in Europe was a fluke I guess.

No one has an issue with Lavin shortening the rotation. But to punish him what what happened in the Providence game while sacrificing a floor spacer was a mistake.

Hope Max keeps his confidence and works on other aspects of his game, putting on some weight and working on his foot speed.

The bright side is that we have a lot of experience and "talent" coming back. This group, as flawed as it is, has more upside than Norm's last team had, and that team went to the NCAA. I am hopeful that next year, with some lessons learned, the core comes back HUNGRY and want to prove themselves. Also, Jordan will be a soph, and I expect BIG things form him. With Harrison, that could t=be one of the country's best backcourts. The frontcourt has more ???? but I think we will be OK> Probably another season of ups and downs, but I think we can be better and I think we will be. Not perfect, but better.

Not sure how you can say we could have one of the country's best backcourts. Jordan is undeniably talented but it's not clear anyone is teaching him how to run a team. His shooting also has to improve. Aside from that we don't have any good shooters in our backcourt. DLo, while he stepped back and let the game come to him more this year, and while he did other things well like rebound, has regressed as a shooter ever since he started wearing contacts two years ago. Unless a backcourt can shoot and drive, it can't even be considered good, much less one of the best.

Sure he can put up numbers against inferior talent like Robert Morris, but a few things were made clear during the course of the season.

1) He has no athletic ability, can't handle the ball, can't play defense, can't rebound
2) We don't run plays to get him open for 3's, so having him on the court was a liability
3) If he was on Robert Morris, would he be starting or even playing? Doubtful. That teams 3 point threats were an athletic bunch that were quick and talented, albeit short.

HE DOESN'T MAKE THEM UNDER PRESSURE,EVEN LAST NIGHT IF MADE THE SHOT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY 5 DOWN. HE ONLY MAKES THEM WHEN WE ARE DOWN SO MUCH THAT OTHER TEAM ALMOST FEELS SORRY FOOR US

1) is ever player on the team required to have "athletic ability"? Isn't that why the great teams have role players?
You say he can't play defense yet Phil Greene logs heavy minutes and is just as bad as Max getting around screens and staying in front of his player. Did you witness Branch's defense last night? Wasn't Branch touted as one of the best defenders in his class?

So the guys with athletic ability have the same exact faults as Max but he's the problem? Gotcha.

2) Who do we run plays for on the team? Did Obekpa not chuck up two 15 footers at the start of the game? Is Dom an offensive liability? Doesn't Dom get a good 15 MPG? Funny how that works.

3) So you know for sure that Max wouldn't break the 8 man RM rotation. Right.

I love the excuses people make as to why Max shouldn't play. But the same standards don't apply for the other players.

Unlike players on the end of the bench, Max had his chances and didn't distinguish himself. Stop the nonsense. On this team, if he could play, he'd be playing - period. Can you remember one brilliant pass he made? One time he sipped a press with slick ballhandling? A single drive to the hoop where he scored? How about one where he missed? How about a drive and dish for an easy two? How about a key stop on defense, a steal in a big moment? How about game changing shooting when he was in a real game.

It didn't happen. period.

The expectations of Max to come in and make 50%+ of his 3s is a joke.

He is a role player. Glad you feel Max's chances were when he was brought in the game 20 seconds before halftime.

Did you really think he was going to do any of those things you mentioned?

Edit- Lol. I see you're trigger happy. Get real.

Max is not a basketball player. He's a shooter. Shooters must make shots to play. Look at the top 100 three point shooters in college basketball. Is Max among them? He should have stayed at Harvard, where at least he would have gotten a good degree, and be among intelligent peers.

I would love to see more playing time for him next year, providing we figure out how to set high screens for him.

He's fun to watch when he's hot but he gives up more points on the defensive end than he can ever score
I think there is lead in the bottom of his sneakers

I can't believe I'm even humoring this with a response, but it's so easy.

1) So now every role player is a non-athletic player? Get real. I never brought up Phil Greene, you did. Phil would make a good role player. He's athletic, shoots at a good clip from 3, and plays solid defense.

2) Obepka is in there to cause a presence in the middle. It's a different position and this is an apples and oranges argument.

3) Nobody can be sure, but who was really knocking down the door to recruit Hooper when they had the chance?

The bright side for me was getting to meet some awesome SJU fans from Redmen.com over the course of the season. To the guys that were there for the Wisconsin viewing party, the ones at the Seton Hall & Villanova road trips, the Big East tournament & even last nights debacle, you guys are the heart & soul of the this program. As frustrating as this season was, we need to turn the page on this season & channel our energy for 2015.

Remember the name of our fight song...."Fight For Old St. John's"

On this day, you have given me a great chuckle! Is this really our fight song? Or, our former fight song? "Show them how to fight. Let them feel your might"...was this written by a 3rd grader?
Back when I was there, they stole the Washington Redskins fight song, "Hail to the Redskins" and called it "Hail to the Redmen".
Wow....we really are a sad sack bunch!!!

Paul Anka, who I believed received an honorary degree from St. John's, promised to write us a school song. It never happened.

Anka did write and offer a song but the powers that be thought "Having My Baby" was inappropriate for a catholic university.

On the bright side rysheed is back on twitter and he is clearly 100% returning for his sophomore year.

NYCRedmen, great post - my highlight of the season was the road trip to Nova with Paultzman reading the signs and getting us to Philly despite many loud distractions. It was amazing that our road crowd made more noise than our home crowd.

Maybe. But this is not the most welcoming site. The "Inner circle" rules the roost. If the D Bags as you so welcomingly refer to them have an opinion so be it. Opinions do not change the reality of the situation at hand. Each game is a microcosm of the season. Happy fans when we win frustrated fans when we lose and the way we lose. Every site is the same way. Blame the coach blame the players blame me for this my 3rd post... bottom line results are erratic at best. Been following this site since it's inception learn alot and wince alot but they are opinions and harmless. This program needs a major jump start they have been rebuilding for 10 years praising recruits then begging they leave with the coach. Yes these are generalities. Doesn't seem like we can recruit with the Big Boys kids want to leave NY and thats fine if this is the best we can attract lets get used to the NIT and Bubble status and accept it. I certainly don't have any answers for recruiting etc. however the same mantra every March has been the only consistency.
