A really nice thing to be aware of is that David DeBusschere, the great Knick's grandson plays both basketball and baseball for Chaminade.   As an old Knicks fan, cannot hope but the best for this young man.

Sorry. Edited. For Chaminade. 5'10 guard.           Guess he’s not following his Grandpa’s genes .  Dave was 6’6 - 6’’7 .  If he’s at Chaminade , he’s a good student . Maybe he can land on the Redmen baseball team ?

Dave's Grandson----OMG!/media/kunena/emoticons/shocked.png

My son and I coached against him (his Dad Peter was opposing coach) when he was in fourth grade and he played for St Joe’s. He was already very fundamentally sound at that young age, no surprise.

And I can’t believe he is already so old - time really flies.

Chaminade lost a close game to CTK the other day, and I believe he had 25 points or so.

I played for Chaminade back in the early 90s.  We always scheduled strong OOC games to start the year.  Christ the King, Rice, Cardinal Hayes etc.  Good times.

Fundamental soundness must be in his genes.  His granddad was 24 when he coached the Detroit Pistons before moving on to the Knicks.  ERA under 3.00 when he pitched a couple of years for the White Sox...

I met Dave DeBusschere when my son and his son Peter were in the same class and played on the same baseball team. Dave and myself were pressured to assist in helping out coach eight year olds. Dave had already been a player coach in the NBA and a major league pitcher to boot and he was as friendly as could be without any airs.
The kids loved him because of his playing days with the Knicks. It appears that Dave’s son Peter and his grandson David got their height from a mixture of both Dave and his wife Geri who was a petite woman.

How great would that be to have Dave DeBusschere on our roster in a couple of years.  If he is a D1 player I can't think of any school that would hold that name as highly as SJU and NYC.

Some highlights of Chaminade in the CTK game. Maybe he will still grow a little.
They did not have that facility nor anyone calling games when I was there.  HAHAHAAHA

They have a great facility now!!!

From Newsday Sunday Paper on the Top 100 Boy Basketball Players on LI:

"Dave Debusschere
Chaminade, 5-11, G. Jr.

He averaged 13 points per game last season, with one of the better outside shots in the CHSAA."

The gym was built by the Marianist brothers with spare time when they weren't making furniture, landscaping, or baking cookies.

As you would think , Chaminade sends about 15-20 Kids ( guys) to Notre Dame  every year . .  It’s truly a feeder HS for the Irish . Not Athletically but , Academically .   I think St John’s has stepped up their recruiting of Chaminade kids and about the same number go to St John’s .   It’s a step in moving up the ladder of College Rankings .  This info supplied by well known and very reliable sources .   So , the DeBusshere kid is likely a very good student too .

College doubleheaders are not uncommon at the Garden . They usually involve 4 local teams .Manhattan - Fordham games were often tied in with an SJU game . It would be great to have more of these in the near future since they would guarantee good MSG attendance .
Against my NYU Violet.  Long ago student bodies would assemble at four different subway stations and march in to the Garden on 49th and 8th.

I have never seen a double admission college doubleheader at the Garden, for what it is worth.

In the old days sometimes they had single admission triple headers.                                     Yes , indeed .  In those old days for us Seniors , the Holiday Festival and possibly the NIT had Triple Headers routinely .  Of course , back in those days they would invite 10 or more teams to the Holiday Classic . I remember seeing NYU vs St Joseph ‘s . Providence vs Someone , with John Thompson the player and Vinnie Ernst and St John’s Vs Illinois or Dayton . It was great fun to be at the Old Garden after Christmas to see the Games . And , just 1 admission .

Yes,remember going to the garden and being there all afternoon  and catching nite games all for the price of a ticket
