A post in the BE thread got me thinking. Someone mentioned Stephens worked a Tex Tech/WVU game last night.

I know in college hoops officials often work for multiple conferences. Got me thinking about football. From a quick google search it seems most only work 1 conference for football with less games and travel. (One outlier seemed to be Sun Belt and SEC sharing).

Might be something to look towards to limit the number of games officials work and keep them fresh so they don't blow the whistle prematurely.
 
And wondering if there's a website with a schedule of which officials are due to work which games.

Marillac - agree that not about the salary but effectiveness in juggling two jobs. I know top refs often do, just a bit questionable on how many games basketball has to officiate in short window.
 
Isn't this the first year NFL officials are finally full time and can't have other jobs.
 
While I'm sure Stephens won't get fired for his bone head mistake, he should, at the very least, draw a strong reprimand and a suspension from the Big East

Ackerman and Jackson need to step up and grow a set

Stephens--"Well it wasn't because I anticipated that one of the planes wasn't going to be there. Def not what happened. See what had happened was......(20 minute delay) See what had happened was I thought that the clock on my computer was not working so I was looking down at that because I thought my computer was not working properly therefore those planes aren't really flying at each other as since I thought my computer wasn't working, then it never really happened."

Stu Jackson- "Yes it was def a clock issue"

Supervisor-"weren't you that terrible Knick coach that replaced Pitino? You sucked! BTW the plane just crashed!"

Val Ackerman-"The BE apologizes to the planes as it is clear Mr Stephens computer was working, but everything he did after that was fine and meets BE standards."

Trainees started in 2012 at $17,803 with after-training salaries starting at $37,070.Feb 9, 2014

Thinking of the John Candy movie when he got furloughed for thinking a bug on the radar screen was a plane.

I agree...89 games in insane. I think they should be prohibited from moonlighting during the season.

I caddied regularly for Tim Higgins as a kid and the refs he brought around had some bank. Higgins was a millionaire independent of reffing.

He was loaded up with all that money in his pockets

Luv it, we are sju. Satire is a beautiful weapon; it disarms hypocrisy. Maybe it’ll wake the BE up.

Some government jobs allow an insane number of vacation days off, and since Air traffic control is 24/7/365 it allows for scheduling flexibility whereby he can ref without missing work time.
 
I know some guys try to keep their schedules as local as they could on weekdays. When Ed Corbett was doing a ton of games he would do a lot of NY area games where he could either only leave a couple hours early or be back in the office in the morning. St. Johns, Nova, Fordham etc plus he would grab a lot of the big games at the Garden and Barclays and then do his travel on the weekends.

Has to help a little on schedules to sleep in your own home and not live out of suitcase and eat on the road everyday.

Would love to see the NCAA team up some conferences and have bigger conference guys work smaller conference games with newer D1 officials as sort of a mentor.

He works for the city or Providence though! Article brought up some interesting points actually.
