Official 2014-2015 Schedule Thread

It's that time of year again where we don't have much to talk about regarding St. John's hoops (except this year it has been a soap opera regarding our roster and recruiting) so I say we start talking about the schedule for next year.

First, I'd like to say, this seasons non conference schedule gets a C- overall grade. And that's being very generous. It would be much worse if we didn't play a final four team and a team that started the season 25-0. This year was Lavins first year playing in this new weaker conference, and I would hope he learned his lesson and realized that we need a tougher non conference schedule to help us come march. Cause lord knows we will be a bubble team yet again :).

Regarding this years schedule, this is what we have so far, and I'll tell you it's a decent start:

[ul]
[li]@ Syracuse, very good game on our schedule [/li]
[li]Preseason NIT - with possible opponents being Minnesota and Gonzaga, two quality opponents[/li]
[/ul]

And I believe that's all we have so far, let me know if I missed anything, please share if you have any info on who we are looking to play, and turn to this thread anytime news comes out about our official schedule for next year.

Honestly, we don't want to play too many games against top 20 teams...those are probably losses for us (unless our back-court really goes the way we want)
We need games against teams ranked 20 to 50 so we have wins against "Top 50" competition.... the ncaa committee seems to put a massive emphasis on that....

I agree, and I think both Minnesota and Gonzaga fall into that category. If Lav schedules six top 50 non conference games, I will be happy, cause we had 2 this year. Plus, Creighton isn't a top opponent anymore, so that leaves more need to schedule better teams.

FYI, our strength of schedule was 48. You're acting like it was 248.

We need more top 50 games scheduled - to be in the top 30 for schedules. It's a fact. With the weaker conference we're in now, we have to schedule moderately harder during non conference games.
It doesn't have to be a masochistic schedule, just make sure we get more top 50 games. Those are resume builders.

I would like to see us in a big NY metro tourney. SJU, Manhattan, Fordham, Hofstra, LIU, Iona, Stony Brook, Wagner (?), C.W. Post (?). Thoughts?

I can't believe we have this cream puff schedule.

Oh wait that's what people will bitch about in 6 months

It is worth remembering that even though Georgetown finished behind us in the Big East standings, the NCAA selection committee put them ahead of us at the end of the day - they were the first four out for the Tourney, we weren't. Big reason was that the Hoyas had wins against ranked VCU and Michigan State.

No offense but if I have to look forward to a tournament with CW Post then my life is going to suck pretty bad and I might as well start cooking Meth

:woohoo: Not sure why, but the words "cooking meth" always get a laugh out of me.

very underwhelming OOC schedule again.
it would be nice to play a better OOC schedule to compensate for our soft league schedule.
Come Feb & March it wont really be fun sitting on the bubble having one "quality win" like this year because we feasted on the little sisters of the poor all year.
It would be nice to add a game vs a PAC 12 team and why not add UConn ? They woud love to play in MSG....or at least another quality NCAA Tourney caliber team?
This is not the Big East of past years and we are not going to build a tournament resume playing butler and depaul.

I would rather watch mine cook meth and takes chances on being blown up rather than watch that tournament.

"very underwhelming OOC schedule again".
Again? Did I miss the 2014-15 schedule? Can you list the entire OOC schedule for us? Do you think the SOS of Villanova, Georgetown, Xavier, etc. will have ANY impact on our SOS? I would like to see a MSG game against Kentucky!
Any chance the Maven can arrange it?

Do you enjoy being critical, just for the sake of being critical? Can you let the schedule come out first.

I for one do not want to play unconn. They won a title, congrats to them. Let's not help them any more by allowing them to infest the Garden. They were eager to leave the Big East, now let them sustain themselves in a conference that will struggle to be level with the current Big East.

I would avoid scheduling Syracuse.

Syracuse is a done deal. We are playing them at the Carrier Dome.

Yes I know. Part of the home and home. I mean going forward.
