Good for Sima

Yankuba Sima and Spain have won the 2016 U20 FIBA European Championship. #sjubb

Sima finished with 2 pts (1-of-7 shooting), 5 rebs, 4 steals and a block. #sjubb

Thanks for the continuous updates. Four months until the first game , and of course a lot can happen , but what the European Championships have shown us is that no one should expect a huge improvement from either Mussini or Sima this season. I am counting on a small improvement from both as they now have back up and have less of a load to carry.
Agreed. At this point in the summer looking at their numbers over there now I'm hoping for just some small incremental improvement. Still a few months to go but better to temper expectations

I imagine that if Ellison really enjoyed playing here last season, the prospect of Simon stealing minutes in 17-18 must have really lit a fire under him. Combine that with genetics and getting that freshman year under your belt, and the potential for him to be good is really high.

Thank you Jack W, LJSA...others
I had the pleasure of sitting near & chatting some with his Dad (never nervous - great trait wish I had :) ) Pervis and he seemed like such a bright, caring, unassuming father - I got "good vibes"
watching him soak in the atmosphere during an Alumni Hall game - seemed so pleased his son - whom he entrusted to Chris Mullin - was a Redman!
IMO that bodes very well NBA dads happy their beloved sons are on our team!

A lot of posters were calling for Ellison to transfer 6 games into his college career. I think he's going to make some people eat some crow in these next 3 years

Unfortunately that is typical of our fan base which immediately flys off the handle and jumps to conclusions in a heartbeat. Happy said a few weeks back that Malik was working super hard and had been the most improved player during the off-season workouts. That was good enough for me to hear as I accept Happy's word as gospel. I am looking forward to seeing his progress this season.

There are positives Mike. Both these kids were selected to play for their country as under 20 year olds. You need a good level of talent to be selected. Mussini will always be too small and weak to defend better guards but will be a good sub when needed. Sima has room to grow and get much better provided his motor improves. He only had two mediocre games, his first and in the last game, but Spain had depth at the center position. He and Vila, who signed with ASU, basically split the minutes at the 5 with two other legitimate centers coming off the bench for Spain. Spain was a guard oriented team and most points came from the outside game. Luckily our redmen will also be dominated by guard and forward play because that is where our talent lies. We will not need either of these players to give us more than 20 minutes per game with Sima coming close to 20 mpg. But it is still wise to temper expectations because "we are St. John's "! ;)
