Obekpa leaving?

He was close to leaving last year, so I have no doubt a crappy season will push him further to the edge.
What many people don't understand is it's not NBA or bust for these guys. Many of them know their future is the D-league or Europe, and they'd like to get paid sooner rather than later.

First of all they are getting paid----to the tune of room, board, training, etc. to the tune of over $80K per year which is what some could earn in the D league but you assume Chris could make a D league team right now. He would not! There are a dozen Obekpas in college right now with better offense, height and skills. He is at least two years away. He and Jordan are the youngest players on the team and it shows and both need to work harder or suffer the fate of Norvell Pelle and Nurideen Lindsey.

Unfortunately it is not about reality and readiness. Too often, as you know, it is what the kid and his "handlers" think. Agree he should stay & hope he does.

I don;'t think he's ready '72, like you say I think there's a fair chance he wouldn't even make a D-league roster. I'm just saying that Obekpa might leave and try that route.

I don't know if there is any reliable history of a playing leaving college in order to make a d-league roster. I'm certain the NBA would frown upon it, and I doubt anyone in their right mind and good academic standing would do that. Why play in gyms in front of 200 people when you can be on TV and in big arenas?

Definitely not unprecedented. Didn't the two Villanova guys, Wayns and Cheek do this two years ago? Nuri did it a year ago. etc
Last year 47 kids left school early, 20 of them went to the d-league or overseas. Article I read didn't break down how many went to each, but still it seems fairly common.

And again, it's not a decision I would make. But then again, I'm not trying to be a professional athlete.

I agree with you about them getting paid, but unfortunately I don't think a lot of the kids feel that way. As for CO, I've said it before and I'll say it again, he is light years away from a professional career, let alone and NBA one.

CO'S BB skills are currently that of a 1 trick pony.. He doesn't yet have a offensive game and he is still very raw in COURT savvy.

He doesn't have the 7' credentials either , and 6'8" shot blockers are rare in the NBA..

He has not yet learned Rebounding skills and, this is a liability too. Maybe he thinks he gets more PT elsewhere? Maybe he does, Maybe he doesn't ?

It's very easy to say that now that he is a bench player. Not many were saying that before this season.

.Now we need to. see .if the staff can improve their game .

Go back and read my posts if you care to and you'll find that my opinion of CO hasn't changed

CO seemed to be very upset with the subbing situations at the end of todays game. I saw him a few times putting his arms up and saying stuff on the bench when a stop in play came and Lavin kept him and Sampson on the bench.

You sure it wasn't him complaining after every whistle like always

Harrison last year. Obepka this year.

Redmen.com has more body language interpreters than the I.D channel :)

As Choz would say. Tru Dat

At this point Obekpa has nothing to complain about. GG busts it on the court, and has shown he deserves minutes. Obekpa brings something different and now must share time. Getting 5 more fouls into the rotation is huge for our squad, who are collectively very adept at fouls, especially the dumb ones away from the basket

If every player played with the heart that GG does, we would have more wins
GG is certainly not the most talented guy on the court but he always gives 100% effort
