Obekpa leaving?

A long time poster on another SJU board passing along something he heard. Anyone hear anything? If so, the ship be sinking.

I don't know anything but I wouldn't be shocked to see him leave after the year.

Lavin indicates Christian Jones grew 3 inches during his redshirt and is approaching 6'9. His backup, Ndays, is gaining weight and has been impressive in practices and he is a good listener. Prized big man recruit Adonis DelLaSlowPoke will be the starting center......at Fordham.
We are......Fordham!

Would not like to see him leave however outside of him blocking shots he gives the team nothing Defensively not a defender liability on the offensive end and no one shots foul shots as bad.

Grew 3 in What was he on hormone bills, not saying he did not grow a little but 3 ins is hard to fathom

I don't know one way or another but FWIW, in the last time out of the game the rest of the team was out to gather around the players and Obepka got slowly up off the bench and ambled over to the huddle, last man there.

It.was. A. Joke. Uass!! Let's.have.fun while.the ship stinks! We win.less than 10 tonite, expect to b In, last place in Big Easy for the remainder of the . Season.

Well I was at the game and saw Obepka do a dance when Gift made great plays. Great camaraderie among the team members. I saw no sign of anything other than wanting to win the game.

Obekpa was also reported to have been quite ill earlier in the day. That certailnly would impact things.

I don't agree. He's obviously not perfect but he makes as big of an impact than any other player on the roster.

Offensively I think he has more than what he shows in games because he doesn't ever get any plays run for him. Other teams have less talented bigs that pick up 10 points per game on put backs and mismatches that we don't get from our bigs. Chris has good hands and finishes around the basket better than our other bigs who always seem to be in a rush.

I think he's regressed this year mainly due to reduced minutes. I think we are making a huge mistake anytime he's off the floor (and not in foul trouble). I bet you opposing coaches feel the same way and are thankful for Lavin's love affair with Sanchez.

Could be true or might not be. What I know is on our boards in the midst of chaos or even success rumors always fly around like bats in a cave

Honestly I don't even care right now about any of these rumors. Win the freaking game tonight and try to salvage some respectability the rest of the season. Whatever happens happens. I'll worry about the rumors when the season is over

Well said! At least Sanchez has two more years with us. Oh wait a minute, that was Obekpa. Max may be our power forward next year. ;)

"Big Easy" Great typo. That is what Creighton and 'Nova fans call it.

We call it something else - Is unmitigated disaster too strong?

Obekpa was recovering from food poisoning...might have had something to do with his lack of energy.

With Sanchez and Gift gone after this year, Obekpa should get 30 minutes a game next year, unless Lavin starts Christian Jones at Center.

PMG said someone close to Obepka said that to him. PMG has never really just throw stuff out there before. I hope it doesn't happen, I like Obepka but this rumor didn't come from a reckless poster. Personally I am worried about CO and Jordan based on no inside information only that they both should be playing more. Since this is now a lost season both those guys need to be playing more from here on out! If they don't and they transfer that is squarely on Lavin.

I really do not pay serious attention to this sort of stuff. I hope they decide to stay, and be there when the team wins. Honestly, if any of these guys leave, I'm reminded of what Ralph Kiner was told after he held out after not getting a raise after leading the NL in home runs:

"We lost with you, and we can lose without you".

Personally, I'm sick of all this transfer/NBA crap. There isn't a guy on this roster that can't be completely replaced by a JUCO next season.
We are fcking 0-5 and have a roster filled with a bunch of divas.
If Jordan is going to transfer after how Lavin pumped him up to the entire world and gave him the keys to the car, let him go. He's been given every opportunity. I'd love for him to stay but we can't have guys with Michael Jordan egos that don't have the games to match.

I like Obekpa as well. He has to adjust and work his butt off to get better in man to man this year, but has tremendous upside and unimpeded minutes next season. If he transfers and sits out, he can all but kiss his NBA career goodbye unless he shows CONSIDERABLE improvement. What NBA team wants a 23 year old 6'7.5 PF without any discernible offensive skill that doesn't dominate the glass? The last thing he needs is to throw in another question mark with a transfer. Bust your arse for another year and sell high.

Man, do I miss players like Erick Barkley who actually played like an NBA prospect.

This is so frustrating for everyone, even the more positive an even-keeled people on here. Despite the late game failures, we are so close to being a winning team. Possibly one big piece short, but probably just one or two guys that start coming up big when the game is on the line. Looking at our record, it's kind of crazy to think there was only one unwinnable game at the 4 minute mark of any game. It's almost insane that our record doesn't reflect that at all.
