Nurideen Lindsey

I guess we all remember that name.
Well ESPN just announced that he will be able to play immediately at Rider and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
I had the pleasure of meeting him the first day he arrived at school last August.
Have a tough time wishing him big success going forward after he abandoned the team.

I think him choosing Arkansas was the ploy for getting eligible immediately. Choose a place he has no desire of going to and flipping right back to a close to home place and he doesnt lose any time.

he left us hanging but I'm so excited about the direction of our team I don't even have annoyance with him for how he left the team.

Best of luck

Hmmmm. Interesting theory. If that works I expect a lot of initial University of Hawaii verbals then reneges once kids catch on to that

Unfortunately many on this and other message boards continually proclaim recruits they have never seen play "can't miss" only to have the recruit disappoint.

Recall that preseason last year many on this site were predicting Lindsey would be "all world" at St. John's being a one and done to the NBA.

Unfortunately Lindsey was not "all world" but rather was "all bust" and is now headed to mid major Rider College.

Lets hope that none of St.John's incoming recruits this season are disappointments like Lindsey, Alpha Bangura, James Felton, Ricky Torres, Jermaine Maybank, Heath Orvis and several others that were thought to be "can't misses".

With all the good things going on here, I am not concerned about Nurideen Lindsey. He seems to be a confused kid but I do wish him luck. Now back to the St Johns kids who want to be here.

While he was here he was our 3rd leading scorer, 3rd leading Rebounder, 2nd leading FG shooter, and 1st in assists. Maybe not all world, but far from "all bust".

Far from a big enough sample size with all the extenuating circumstances for you to paint that picture also.

cr.... Lindsey registered his playing time against non Big East talent with St.John's having a short bench. I doubt that Lindsey would compare favorably against Big East talent.

In my opinion Lindsey will only make the NBA if he purchases a ticket to watch a NBA game.

cr... sincere best wishes to you on your health concerns. If you are going to be laid up then I hope that occurs during basketball season when you can watch 10 games a day over cable and ESPN3. Please follow your Doctor's directions.

Sorry cr he started strong against weak competition and was fading rapidly.
Like all of the names OTIS listed he had a poor attitude and none of the players who left SJU had stellar careers elsewhere.
Kid was a bust.

Sorry, but James Felton was a heck of a talent. Hard to predict the sad demise that he succumbed to. He was a real good player with huge upside though. Most on that list were not "can't miss" players. Orvis was never touted as such I don't believe, but I can't remember that far back. Torres was a solid local prospect who never panned out. It certainly happens. This coaching staff and their level of recruiting and talent evaluation is at a different level entirely though.

None of the players you mentioned were high school AA's who were touted as future NBA ballers.
Nurideen was a PR stunt by both his handlers (before St. John's) and SJ (after he signed). Nuri had no track record against top competition to warrant the press he received. Of all of them, Heath was the only one with his head screwed on straight.
I think the days of signing the Felton's and Maybanks of the world are over.

I think Nuri would have been good had he stayed on path. This staff had the know-how to get him there. He didn't want to hear it. Nuri had a ton of ability and was super hard to guard heading to the hoop, even by good athletes like those at Zona. His shooting and scoring game outside the basket was defunct. Had he stayed the entire year and worked in those things, I think he might have come back real good this year. He didn't and quit on everybody. It's his path, but I guarantee he won't get that kind of coaching at Rider.

Had he not left, we likely wouldn't have gotten Branch and my gut tells me Branch will be a real solid addition. Just keep rolling.

Marcus ... Lindsey's entire playing career is full of "what ifs". There is not much of a demand in the NBA for undisciplined players who can drive the lane but lack an adequate outside shot.

Long time posters will recall the pre season excitement on this site about transfer Alpha Bangura (his name sounded like a destination on Star Treck) and the unwarranted confidence by many posted regarding 3 point shooter Heath Orvis before reality struck that he was a D2 type player.

Below is a link to a tragic story about former St.John's signee, a top 25 national recruit, who failed in so many ways to met lofty expectations of college stardom which others set for him.

72 I have to disagree in respect of James Felton who was a great talent and was very highly ranked in high school but as we all learned much later on was afflicted by serious demons. I believe he was a borderline MCAA.
Ricky Torres on the other hand was borderline top 100.
Both of those players should have had very good college careers had their heads been screwed on properly.

I have a problem with Jermaine Maybank being on this list and anyone questioning his attitude. Jermaine messed up his knee before he got a chance to play here. While he was out, he was always cheering his teammates. He graduated in four years and then went to Kansas St. He played there and is has played professionally in Australia. He was never built up to be a program changer.
To label a young man who got hurt, never complained or whined about his misfortune, graduated on time, attended grad school and played at Kansas St, then played professionally in Australia as someone who is a bust and has a bad attitude seems totally nonsensical to me. I view Jermaine as a success because of where he came from and the fact that he had the perseverance and determination to accomplish his goals, not yours or mine.

While I never thought he woud be a great, as someone who had seen Torres play on several occassions, I though he would be a solid player for us and was a good get. I was wrong. While Orvis wasn't really hyped like MCNPA stated, after he committed, I do recall posters worrying that none the upcoming stellar class of NYC point guards (Cook, Brown and Barrett) would chose St. John's because of his signing. That of course is laughable and even then was derided by a few posters.

Felton had a skill set almost similiar to Artest. Unfortunately, Felton, as mentioned by 'north, was dealing with some serious issues. Take away his issues, and you had a player who could ball.
