NIT

Jordan out ill tonight

QUEENS, N.Y. (March 18, 2014) – St. John’s head men’s basketball coach Steve Lavin announced Tuesday that 6-4 freshman guard Rysheed Jordan will miss the Red Storm’s NIT opener vs. Robert Morris with tonsillitis.

Turns out it was the opener and closer

@AdamZagoria: Georgetown's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera went for 32 and 10 in a 77-65 win over West Va in the NIT

While our "leader" scored 9 points on 3-13 shooting.

watched most of the NIT coverage last night along with the NCAA play in games and by far the worst crowd was in Alumni Hall. Clemson had a good crowd same with St Mary's but at old Alumni you'd have a tough time getting a poker game. This was supposed to be the year. This was the year we were supposed to have talent and depth at every position to make a run. Instead it will go down as one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory. Lavin's got his work cut out for him because if a couple of guys decide to leave and with no fan base this program could spiral into complete irrelevance

There was a basketball game at Carnesseca Arena last night - the AD forgot to tell Steve Lavin and the players.
The AD should also forget about negotiating a contract extension until a new University president is hired and until we see who Lavin recruits this Spring.
I wanted to see if the wizard of Holliswood could motivate his team to win the NIT but he failed miserably since whatever preparation and words of wisdom he imparted on his team were rejected by his highly ranked group of underachieving no-shows with no heart or balls.
I went into the RMU game with a positive attitude.  I said to myself all we need to do is contain 2 players, go inside often over the smallest team we have faced and press them.  I was in total shock when, after the first 10 minutes, we did none of those things.  Game plan? Lavin apparently improvised this one over steak and chianti.  The players? They stunk up the arena.  D'Angelo Harrsion first team Big East? I don't think so! I don't care how many points he has scored in program history, half of those points have been garbage points and last night he was shown the door in the second half by a frustrated wizard who, in the last game of the season, realized he had two legitimate 3 points shooters on the team. Forget the 3 point lucky shots by Branch at the end of the game, had it not been for Hooper and Marco this could have been a 25 point loss at home, one of the programs worst losses in history. Speaking of Branch, he was totally dominated and once again showed he cannot guard his own shadow. Sampson? He read the Dom Pointer playbook and gets an F.
Pointer and Phil Greene?  Neither can shoot or defend.  Jordan? Tonsillitis two hours before game time? If he did not have a fever and was at the game, he should have been in uniform!
The coaches?  Time for some shuffling!

and people post about the fans support...only X amount of fans...blah blah blah....i feel bad for the 1027 fans they got sucked into paying another dime to get crushed again. They should refund their money, seriously.

I know that apathy was very high here about playing in the NIT but it is worth pointing out that SMU's Nic Moore hit a clutch 3 pointer with five seconds left to give SMU a dramatic 67-65 victory over Cal and a trip to New York and the NIT semis. The SMU fans, in a packed arena, stormed the court and carried Moore off on their shoulders.

Three of the four number one seeds (SMU, Minnesota and Florida State) made it to the Garden for the NIT final four next week. The fourth number one seed did not show up (along with their fans) for a first round home game against number 8 seed Robert Morris. An opportunity for a second life after our disappointing exit in the Big East tournament was wasted. It makes me sad.

I guess the other 3 #1 seeded teams in the NIT were not the least bit disappointed that they didn't make the NCAA T otherwise they all surely would have been blown out in the first round on their home courts!

Three number 1 seed team made "final 4" for the 2013-2014 NIT.

1 SMU
1 Minnesota
1 Florida St.

Only St. Jonn's didn't make NIT final 4 as number 1 seed team. St. John's was even overrated team for 2013-2014 season. St. John's is out of top 100 team.

Richard Pitino has done an excellent job in his first year at Minnesota. He's got mid major transfers in the lineup and they play hard and win.
