NIT

I would have new found respect if Lavin rejected NIT bid.

Nope! The NIT isn't the NCAA, but it's better than the NIT of years past.

If we were invited to the CBI, then I would pass on that one. I'd also leave it up to the players. If the majority doesn't wanna play, then you pass on it. If the majority wanna play, then you play in it.

The NIT is of course a letdown, but turning it down is crazy. It would be nice for these guys to get additional games under their belts. Plus it gives Sanchez extra games to impress some Euro scouts.

Not allowed anymore. At least, not allowed this late in the game anymore.

This article is from last year, explaining it:

With the NIT being owned by the NCAA, it makes sense that allowing teams to reject a bid would only further diminish the tournament, jeopardizing attendance and TV contracts. How much do invited teams get paid?

I don't think they should turn down an NIT

That being said only 1 game would catch my interest and that's if we play Iona. Either way unless the 1st round game somehow ended up at the Garden then I'm done for the rest of the season like our lack of effort for a good part of the game today.

My vacation can't get here soon enough. I need a temporary break from the team

They should not turn down a bid to the NIT, having said that I put the balls away for the season, NOT INTERESTED!

As I said yesterday, where do fans come up with this? Let me repeat this over and over.

St. John's last won an NCAA Tournament game in the year 2000. That's 14 years ago. And the icing on the cake is they've only been there 3 times since then.

Until they prove otherwise, they are an irrelevant program who isn't going to reject any bid.

Are you guys insane???? Yes the ultimate goal is the NCAA Championship, we ALL want that. BUT, everyone on this team that plays is coming back next year. Look at some of the teams that have won past NITs and what they did the following year...Look at Va last year. I remeber Villanova years past winning the NIT, it was exciting. If they go deep into the NIT and possibly win it, Id take that over a first round knock out. Its more growth. Look at the big picture here guys. Am i pissed, yes.....but lets move on...NIT Championship would staify me. They would be one of only a few teams actually playing in a few weeks if that happens. Ill take it, its better for recruiting than a quick knockout or even worse...DECLINE the NIT???? Thats insane!

They should offer free tickets

By all accounts the turnout for the BET game vs Prov was low; can only imagine how anemic it will be for the NIT.

Personally I don't think turnout yesterday was low. I was intrigued to see 'new' SJU fans who normally aren't going to games.

Low? From my point of view the place was pretty much filled, save for some Villanova fans who left after they lost.

Crowd yesterday was pretty good. Better than the night session by what looked like about 5-10%, and the night session had the bonus of what seemed like 8,000 Creighton fans roaming the building.

The NIT will be a good opportunity for us to get more experience. Just like the Euro Trip and our games in November and December and January. We are heavy on the experiential piece at SJU, light on results.

I don't get why anyone doesn't want to play in the NIT? What's the harm? And, really, who cares?
Is there anything to gain by not playing?

We're all disappointed the team didn't advance, but isn't just spiteful to say no to the NIT?

If they couldn't get up for Xavier or Providence...the two most important games of the season...then what makes anyone think they'll be more than one and done in the NIT?

I'd rather be spared the embarassment.
