Next Coach?

Obviously passions are running high re Steve's extension

Whether you want him extended or not, now is the time to be sharing your thoughts, observations and advice with Bobby via email.

What is bobby's email address?

I'llALWAYSlove DUKE@dukeALUM.com

He's talking about President Bobby of SJU.

But don't let that get in the way of your juvenile reason for not wanting Bobby Hurley or any 'Dukie' :)

I'm just shaking my head that there are people here that don't want a former Duke player as a coach. I'm not saying I want him, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter where he played or coach before.
really???? are you guys serious??? so if we had a UCONN player that would be ok too ? What happened to rivals? Are there not enough qualified candidates that the minute a young coach from a good school starts to win a coulple of games we all jump on it like we cant lose out. Please, look at all your prior posts from years ago. Where are those up and coming guys now? The exception is Donovan. The most sucessful coaches in college hoops today are guys who have been there awhile. Stick with Lav and give him FULL support!!

Mike, I agree. I'm not a big fan of either Hurley, but not because they have the Duke connection. Reminds me of all the Mets fans who didn't want Willie Randolph because he played and coached for the Yankees. Turned out he wasn't a good manager, but because he played for a hated rival was no reason to reject him from the outset.

I don't think I'd take a former UConn player as a coach, but only because I don't know of any good ones available. I would take Calhoun in a second and not lose any sleep at all, though. I want to win.

Hire Christian Laettner. Like the Hurleys he has a burning desire to win, and doesn't care who he ticks off doing that. I'm not serious, but the TV documentary "I hate Christian Laettner" is very good. I agree with you Mike - anyone who burns to win like the Hurleys do, is okay with me.

One other thing that seemed pretty clear after watching "I Hate Christian Laettner" is that Bobby's not too smart, not that this is a requirement for NCAA basketball coaches.

Wait a doggone second. You mean all Duke students aren't brilliant and superior in every conceivable way?

Reading the article, a committee in place to determine Lavin's future is nothing new, or a result of the outcome of this season. I won't comment further.

He sure looked pretty darn smart at Buffalo the last 2 years

Absolute same ignorance, should we be surprised?

referring to a committee. We all know what former committees have accomplished. I cannot believe we are talking about this again. Seems like groundhog day..

Please, oh please, do not include Ron Rutledge on the committee

This is why so many of us think it's easier just to stay with Lavin. This school has a bad habit of correcting mistakes with worse mistakes.

i'm confident that Archie Miller would seriously consider coming to STJ and am virtually 100% certain that B Hurley would come.

If Miller is waiting for the Indiana Job, that is a big risk. If Crean does well next year and secures his job long term, Archie could find himself stranded in Dayton for another 4-5 years before a truly big job comes along. As I have said before, none of the other Big 6 jobs will be available for at least a few yrs until K and Roy retire (or Cal goes nba). And the next tier of jobs (Michigan, Mich St, Ohio st, Florida...) are occupied for the next several years. That is why I believe that the SJU job is one of the best available now and Miller would be taking a potentially foolish gamble not to give the offer serious consideration ( as would Gregg Marshall imo).

Oh how hard it is to be a fan without having some kind of illness, ie. ulcers, high blood pressure, nervous twitches and a whole host of other conditions. Why? What did we do wrong? All we want to is be happy, excited and proud fans of a perennial top 25 program that goes to the NCAA's 4/5/yr
Is that too much to ask? Well I guess it is if we cheer for the Red and White. Momma Mia...

Then why not hire Matt Doherty? He has the same qualities you mentioned. (I am not series about this either).

And the documentary on Laettner was very good. ESPN usually does a very good job on there 30 for 30 series.

Tubby Smith will be 64 yrs. old when the season starts. Too old to rebuild here.
