Next Coach?

I think we all want the things you stated above but it is not necessary to denigrate a fellow fan and poster to make that point. ;)
As for the pictures, that is my current schtick! Yours better be funny! B)
Finally, while we seem to agree the staff, with Lavin in particular, have not closed deals the past two years, and, other than the year coach was struck with cancer (not a funny subject with all due respects to Dr. Fun), the fans who do not need pictures for your explanation and who are much more objective see that Lavin has indeed put St. John's in a position for post season every year he has been on the bench. Two NCAA's and 2 NIT's for a program left raped and ravaged by your old mentor Jar head and the holy Vincention exorcism directed by a "safe" Catholic black coach is the main reason why you fear for a future that has not arrived as yet. As I told you in private next year will be a rebuild regardless of who is coach. My problem with yours and others here is none of you can come up with a visible national brand coach to replace the wizard and are content with a mid major guy to lead us to post season every year in one of the toughest conferences in America. To just want a coach fired because you just want "change " may be the equivalent of throwing out the baby with the bath water.
All that may be left in your scenario is a dirty ring around the tub.

1. The first shot was taken at me by Mike in his post.
2. All you do here is denigrate fans who dont agree with you, then you resort to the "its all in good fun" line.
3. I never once brought up Lavin having cancer or used that against him. I am actually happy he is in remission and doing well. I can leave the basketball out of this and not be an animal - i dont wish that on anyone.
4. Bring up Jarvis all you want - he went to an Elite 8, 3 NCAAs, won an NIT and a BET all in the same amount of time Lavin was here. All damage done to SJU was after he left and was a result of utter mismanagement of the team by Father Harrington, Kathy Meehan and the rest of the minions in the athletic department. I have posted that numerous times already, and at the risk of upsetting Beast of the East i dont want to post something again that has already been discussed here, but Jarvis' success at SJU far exceeds anything Lavin has done. We know, he inherited a good team. Well, so did Lavin - they were a Top 25 team with victories over 4 Top 10 teams that year and it was unfortunate that DJ was injured in the BET - who knows what wouldve happened then.....but thats the way the cookie crumbles, and with his own players, SL has taken four years to get back to the NCAAs. So we wont even be rebuilding next year if we will be back to the status quo for pretty much the last three years, right?
5. I want the coach fired because the recruiting has been an utter abomination - the last two years, plus this year looks like we are striking out over and over and resorting to Plan X Y and Z with the exception of Sampson. We will be losing Harrison Pointer and Green and possibly Jordan and that production needs to be replaced. Being lazy for three years on the recruiting trail is not acceptable and doesnt warrant an extension, and we dont need a "big national name" who will come in here and bust his ass and bring in players because lets be honest thats why we brought Lavin here....his MO was recruiting. He wasnt brought here because he was some sort of Xs and Os wizard.

Avon, two years ago he filled his ONLY scholarship with Rysheed---a top 20 pg. Our most crucial need at the time. Some even say that he forced Amir out to free up that scholly. It is disingenuous to keep making the argument that he has had two awful recruiting cycles. Last year, admittedly, was an abomination.

fair enough, so we will not include 13 because of Jordan, but does he get the pass for 14 & 15?

I have faith in the 15 class!

Didn't realize the '15 recruiting was over. Good to know.

He's 11-6 in the conference this year and has won the BE Tournament. Not too shabby.

Also a relentless recruiter.

I knew it hadn't been updated, but just as comparison he's in range, and hasn't had more success than Lavin in terms of his record

Thank God for the first amendment.

Does the first amendment include privately owned message boards?

Likely not. I am sure it is subject to the discretion of its owner.

I posted my current feeling on the coach yesterday and feel no need to reiterate. That said, the censoring of specific topics seems to defeat the purpose of a message board.

This is a ridiculous assertion on your part. You are free to write whatever you want, but not free form the ramifications of such assertions. You have no legal right to publish here, and as such if you wrote egregious. libelous. false, racist, or other types of unacceptable posts, you would rightfully and legally be quieted or banned, First Amendment or not.

Hit, stop with the bullshit!
I bring up your defense of Jarvis as proof you are, like pops, making most of your position a personal vendetta rather than any form of constructive and objective logic. That bald headed pompous ass was a destructive influence on the program. I know you were a team manager and you still tow the party line as a Jarvis apologist. His final 4 years as coach were quite forgetable and his losses were 15, 12 and 13 before he was summarily fired in December of 2003. That "success" as defined by you in the final 3 years included just ONE NCAA and ONE NIT. It included accusations of assault by a player, illegal payment to a BENCH PLAYER, drug use and in the end forfeiture of most wins from the official records. As for that POS's recruiting ability, his final two years were much worse than Lavin and was composed of players with low moral fiber that gang banged a hooker in Pittsburgh.
You can fabricate and embellish all I say above to defend your Facebook friend but be aware that you are being judged by the company you keep and defending that coach/pimp just makes you look like you are still his bitch.
As for your not holding Lavin's cancer against him, well when I point to the fact he did not coach his recruits in his second year because of his LOA, you conveniently countered with "but he was still the coach of record".
As for your concern over the future of the program I suggest you apply for a position in the athletic department where you may make a difference or become an apprentice trainer under Ron who will retire soon. Do anything positive but never, ever, try to reinvent Mike Jarvis's official record at St. John's as it is an insult to the fans.
As for fun that is what sports is all about. Here is the official definition: " an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

I am here to have fun because I see this Forum as "entertainment". You, and my fellow posters, are part of the attraction. Instead of physical exertion we indulge in verbal jousting. You seem to enjoy the jousting to the point of making hidden threats to some old men here. That form of insolence is what got pops banned. I am proof it is never too late to learn good sportsmanship and protocol and accept I will often rub folks the wrong way but hold no animosity towards anyone here, including you.

No need to be shy, 72. Tell us how you really feel.

I think we have to be open to the possibility that Avon has no idea why he says what he says.. he's Daddy's mouthpiece and we know the agenda there. If he could think for himself, who knows what he might say?

I just don't see how this is even a discussion. In the four years he has been on the bench, he has three 20 win seasons and a 17 win season. Aside from the 2014 recruiting class, he has always brought in what was needed. So far we have 2 commits for the 2015 class.. One an under the radar 3 star and the other a top 50. We have national recognition once again because of him and if you don't think a trip to the dance will attract more players this year, then you're just plain naive and stupid.

I have a friend in California who decided to watch the game against Duke at my request... He liked how the team looked so much the style of play that Lavin plays, that he has watched every game since then. He's become a fan even though he has no connection to the school and lives 3000 miles away from our nearest campus.

Looking forward to Villanova and more years of Coach Lavin. I hope him being here for years to come really pisses you miserable unappreciative people off....

Thank God for the first amendment.

Does the first amendment include privately owned message boards?

Likely not. I am sure it is subject to the discretion of its owner.

You have no legal right to publish here, and as such if you wrote egregious. libelous. false, racist, or other types of unacceptable posts, you would rightfully and legally be quieted or banned, First Amendment or not.

I don't disagree with that.

First Amendment means the government can't infringe on your free speech rights. You can go stand on the street corner and speak your mind. However, private entities (such as corporations and websites) can set up their own rules for what constitutes acceptable speech.

There is still some hope for those who want Lavin out regardless. The level he has the team playing now they could win the Big East tournament, win a couple of games in the NCAA and have some school throw a bundle of money at him in April.

well the thought of that should unite all the people who want a new coach with the rest of the board ll

Right, I understand that. Was just saying I enjoy it and know it does not apply to the discussion.

That would be an interesting scenario and being off the hot seat has given his agent a better bargaining position. The pro side of the argument is St. John's would save on buy out costs and they would be able to put that towards an offer in the $2.5 million range where you can possibly attract the Miller, Marshall, Smarts of the coaching world. This is going to be an interesting April.

wondering if anyone thinks it's possible to be very happy for the team, the wins, the probable NCAA bid, and to also be critical of, and frustrated by what I see on the court, from a gameplan perspective?

Possible? ??
That is what we do here! We are all frustrated arm chair coaches who know it all.

Out of respect for the team and what the coach has accomplished this season, can one of the mods change the title of this thread. It has been mostly a mockery of the original intention for a few weeks, but it should not be the first thing that comes up when someone logs on.

Change it back after the season. We need only positive energy this month.
