Next Coach?

I can tolerate any respectful position on this coach, so long as it's not repeated 50 times a day, which it is.

I can tolerate people believing they are fans also while in the process of clamoring for a new coach. It's totally your opinion and right to express it.

I also can't understand perpetuating this discussion in the midst of a run that could earn us our first NCAA bid in 4 years. Basically it says that the fire Lavin guys really aren't happy with us being on the cusp of a bid. It can wait till the offseason, no?

What I can't tolerate is grown men attending our most important game of the season and of the previous four, and booing the head coach in pre game introductions. It would piss me off enough if they were Georgetown fans, but i'd really be tempted to put my foot in the back of both of them. Yea, yea, I know it's your legal right once you buy a ticket, but if I ran the ticket office and had any say, the next seat you bought from me would be in the nosebleeds, even if the 100's were empty.

While we are at it, one of the parties who identified themselves as booing worked the room at Carnesecca's bday bash, and took the title "birthday bash" a little too seriously as he bashed Lavin to anyone who would listen.

That being said, I'm not trying to attack Avon, who I know is a passionate fan, but the behavior just drives me nuts.

I just don't get it.

Agreed Beast. There's a time and place for everything and now is not the time IMO.

I have to agree with 72 here that the idea of Felix bring recruited by Calipari or K is completely laughable and let's not turn this into a Felix bash.. But those coaches get to hand pick their recruits who are all basically HS all Americans.

Even Cal fills out his roster with four-year role players. You know that.

Cal's first two platoons are 10 high all Americans. The 12th and 13th man were Mr. Basketball in the State of Kentucky and the San Francisco Bay area POY.
Nice of you though to equate Felix Balamou to the 14th man on the UK team. Not sure it remotely helps your point. ;)

Kentucky has a roster of 16 with 10 top 100 players...six of them are not top 100. Only one of them showed up in the top 150. That leaves five guys on the most stacked team the NCAA has probably ever seen, that were not top 150. Felix was a top 150-200 talent out of high school. His athletic ability is second to nobody. He's worth a scholarship based on "what if" all day long when you consider his worst case is an above average defender at the high major level--and a kid that isn't a problem on or off the court to boot. Get as cute as you want, but there are not many kids with Felix Balamou's athletic ability roaming this planet...he is an absolute freak of nature.

He would never be playing meaningful minutes in a meaningful game at Kentucky though. And he certainly wouldn't be jumping in the jump ball to start the game.

No argument there.

I've lost all hope for this board. This thread is still going strong and I see a debate about whether Balamou could play for Kentucky? Really? Balamou? Felix Balamou? I can't read this anymore

Relax. While I have lost all hope for some of this board, Balamou was specifically brought up as a knock to Lavin. I simply meant to defend the recruitment. It is annoying to let that drag out--I agree--and I should have known that would lead to a feeding frenzy for the anti-Lavin crowd who haven't had much to gnaw at the past few weeks. My bad there.

To wrap up my thoughts permanently on Balamou and Lavin--at least for this thread--if he never plays another minute, I would not be able to blame any coach for using a 12th or 13th scholarship on a kid with is otherworldly athletic gifts so long as they were not relying on him in any way. Lavin wasn't, and he seems like a perfect teammate that comes in off the bench regardless of how long he has sat and gives insane effort (maybe too much?) every second on the floor. He also helps recruit is more talented high school teammates--CO, Diallo, Yakwe.

Case closed on this. My apologies for the interruption.

For those guys old enough to remember an old time hardware store, you could go in an ask for a left handed size #2 widget, and the owner would get out a ladder find a draw close to the ceiling and rummage through it. Then he'd take the time to explain to you how to install it. Then after 20 minutes he'd charge you something like 53 cents for the widget, which is a perfect fit for what you need.

Balamou is like that widget. Lavin called his number only when our lineup needed an super athletic guy to hold down the fort against similar athleticism on the other team where Amar, JDR, or C jones would have gotten swamped. It's been a great call on his part, and certainly Balamou, though limited has played a big role in some decent wins lately. He's not Kentucky worthy, but has played a very important role this season when called upon.

Maybe after Lavin gets extended, the disgruntled group will either pick a different team to cheer for or they will just blend into the landscape. In light of this season and how the team has played, the title of this thread is embarrassing....

Then they'll go back to attacking the AD as well as turn their sights toward the incompetent university president who has no vision for the school and its athletic department.

I think you have been hanging out with Lavin too much. Felix "the Widget" Balamou?
What is next Joey "the sawzall" De Larosa

I disagree. Lavin called his number because other than Branch ,we really have no BE caliber bench players this year.

Is someone going to start a New AD thread?

I know and it has become a running joke at events. :) With Don as a sidekick it is like watching Penn and Teller in reverse roles.
His birthday was also coming up and an acquaintance joked he was getting him a can of Raid as a gift. The punch line was because he has a bug up his ass. :p
Most people stopped listening after he once declared he still wanted him gone even if he went to the sweet 16 and had a top recruiting class followed by the famous "it's not personal"!
I wish it was just basketball related but no one seems to know the truth.
I have a relative just like that and all he says is "I just don't like the guy". Nothing to do with basketball but basketball junkies walk a fine fine between reality and fantasy.
I find it hysterical but one of the assistant coaches from the left coast wants to hear some of the grips personally. I would pay ring side price for that event.

Is someone going to start a New AD thread?

There will be far less debate and venom on that thread.

No there won't!! He is just as disliked. Someone's got a hard on for him in the athletic department and spilled the beans about an internal "affair". Suspects range from an ex ball boy to the trainers office.
The Maven has even named the vixen at the risk of defamation but I can't wait for the X rated video to be released "Getting to third base with the coach. A how to manual".

Appears he has no reservations about hammering someone he dislikes. remember Crumb-cake?

Yes, I know. I meant no one will debate because everyone hates him, and that there'd be no venom spewed from poster to poster. Sorry for the confusion.

Wait for the next loss :) This is St. John's...two things are certain: we will get too high after wins and too low after losses.

My favorite is Mean Gene. Reading his commentary during a game is like a diagnostic manual for bipolar affective disorder.

Beast I appreciate you singling me out here and I'm sorry me booing steve lavin at a gAme makes you want to resort to violent behavior. Just the idea that I have that much power over someone really touches me. Maybe we can figure out a way to channel some of that negative energy into something more positive, but you may want to join the Dr. Phil message board for that. I don't think youll get the answer here.

As for me posting the same thing over and over fifty times a day as you said somewhere in that post where you were babbling on about sticking ur foot into my head, I think you are exaggerating and honestly -95% of the posters here are pro Lavin....my point is he shouldn't be extended just on making the NCAAs. He should be judged on the overall body of work which has been underwhelming and additionally the recruiting for next year which is shaping up to be a disaster....because we will be losing Harrison Pointer Greene and Branch for sure and maybe Jordan, so that production has to be replaced somewhere.

I have met you before, I have seenyouatgames and I know you are a big fan, so I trynot to post anything to troll you but I am not changing my stance on the coach, and the job he's done. I respect you as a fan and I respect your opinion even though it might not be the same as mine but your post is imbecilic a childish in every sense of the word just because. I am not acting as you feel I should be.

As for my father he didn't boo Lavin and I have no idea what he said about Lavin or didn't say at LCs party. All I an say is he isn't happy with the coach and job done by coach. Anything else you can ask him when you see him. and he did mention to me though that your father was a "great guy" and that Lavin had balls for missing Louie's party.
