New York Mets 2025 Season

Back to some math since the game got rained out.

The Braves need to play .700 ball to get to 90. :) That one feels good to write.

I’m

Acuna is just going to sit on the bench here. Not sure I like this. Why not continue to give him ABs at AAA? We already have a Baty/Vientos/Mauricio logjam.

He also probably should be taking bunting lessons from Jankowski. Acuna for a player who needs to use his speed doesn’t play small ball.

The only way this makes sense to me is if Acuna is playing every day in CF. He played a third of his games in AAA there, and the Mets may have lost patience with Taylor's offense.

Over his last 21 games, Taylor's hitting .121 with a .148 OBP and .207 SLG. I can't blame the FO if they think Acuna can't be any worse + McNeil can't physically hold up there every day.

I guess we are going to find out but I don’t see him playing everyday here yet. 6 rbi in 145 ABs, below .300 obp, and no power. Elite base runner he is. Unless we are sitting McNeil/Baty/Mauricio/Vientos tough to see how he’s playing everyday here for me.

I'm not used to the Mets being so competent, but Acuna only amassed 18 days at AAA. In order to keep his minor league option for next year, he has to be there for less than 20 days.

So we may have our “explanation” of why now!

Why take him out now? He already gave up the insurance run. What was the point? Save the bullpen? Well that’s not gonna happen. Clear Stanek was a mess.

I am starting to really question what Mendoza is doing.

I argued against the idea Mendoza should be on the hot seat but IMO, he committed one of the real boneheaded pitching moves, letting a starter pitch to “one more” batter deep in the game, provided he doesn’t get on.
Just take him out, let the reliever start the inning. Peterson has one complete game and suddenly he gets treated like Sandy Koufax.
Agree, Mendoza consistently exhibiting the anti-Midas touch the last 6 weeks or so.

I am not putting him on the hot seat. Just have questions as to the thinking. Gary Cohen mentioned that Baltimore has had trouble with LHP. They were loaded with big left handed bats off the bench. O’Hearn and Henderson were both waiting to pinch hit. On top of that Stanek has been bad for about a month. The bad outcome FELT predictable. He put him in a position to fail. Then after the guy gives it up he leaves him in to give up the insurance run when keeping the deficit at 2-1 was imperative. I don’t get it.

It is also FAIR and not on Mendoza that Stearns and the front office have not yet filled the left handed reliever role. We are sitting around waiting on Brooks Raley which in and of itself is a risk. The AJ Minter hole has never been filled.

The 2nd game tonight is not looking good given the matchup. That’s why this game stung a little more and why it’s hard to defend Mendoza here.

All that being said, as some others have pointed out, the Mets should have been winning by 4 or 5 runs the runs that were not scored by completely inept offensive baseball.

I am not remotely putting Mendoza there either, but he is definitely slumping. The lack of a left handed reliever is certainly valid.
