New York Mets 2025 Season

Stanek has been good in most games but I unfortunately have been to two games where he hasn't. The game in Washington where we blew a 7-1 lead and lost 8-7. He couldn't close out the game in the 9th, although a bad throw by Alonso didn't help. Then yesterday. I was just glad we won. Three of Stanek's worst games has come again the Nationals so maybe they have his number.

Diaz got out of it so no complaints there.

Hopefully Senga will be healthy later in the season. We need him for the playoffs. Lets see if we can get something out od Montas or Manaea

Got get Skenes Uncle Stevie got the $$$
Really not about money. We literally would have to give up any 5 prospects they want. That sounds great but what happens if he blows out his arm? Today that seems almost inevitable. Remember when fans wanted Corbin Burnes. He’s not pitching again until 2027. That contract is now an albatross for Arizona.

Also we are ignoring the reality that the Mets have been avoiding signing pitchers to long term contracts. At some point Skenes is going to want that 7 or longer deal and right now the Mets aren’t going there.

It is not about the money. It is about the truckload of prospects it would take to get him.

He is under team control for three years (I think) with a very reasonable contract. And he already is dominant. Sure, start him in a playoff series, and the Mets are probably World Series favorites.

The one pitcher for a boatload of prospects has been a mix bag in the past with Viola and Johan. You put Skenes in the rotation they’re the favorite easily.

I would make this trade. 5 playoff runs and 4.5 years of team control for a Cy Young pitcher in his prime is crazy. I don't think Stearns would entertain signing a long-term deal with any pitcher, even Skenes.

I don't love Sproat or Gilbert, so those guys would be easy to part with. I love Jett and they would insist on him being included. They would want an inexpensive controllable arm like Megill too I'd imagine. I'd part with Mauricio in this as well as one of our good A or AA arms. Take on the Hayes contract for them to sweeten the pot. Throw in someone like Baro or Baez.

If they want guys like Tong, Vientos, McLean, and Benge then you begrudgingly include them. Skenes is THAT good. There are a lot of ways we could get this done and still have a steady stream of prospects coming through the next few years.

Mets pitchers really shouldn’t be over taxed. They already are rolling with a 6 man rotation instead of a 5. Essentially these guys are getting an “extra” day every time out. But hey if they need to skip a start or two they have options barring unforeseen injury.

It's more about building up the durability. It usually takes several seasons to get a guy to 180 innings. Senga barely pitched last year and Holmes has never thrown more than 70 innings in a season. With starters, there is also the side and bullpen sessions between starts to account for.

I wouldn’t. That’s just me. I guess I am buying into the Stearns model. I am also worried about a long financial commitment to any pitcher. A long time ago I thought Matt Harvey was what Paul Skenes wants to be. Then I watched it fizzle. One injury could derail the whole train.

Probably doesn’t matter. Pittsburgh probably is not trading him anyway. The Owner is already getting killed. A free agent in 3 years I think.

Free agent in 2030

Blackburn stinks. His pitches had nothing. Floating up to the plate. 🤮
bad outing for sure. I often feel he just lacks the “umph” needed to be a guy who can pitch in high leverage situations

This has been a great game so far. Good situational hitting from both teams. Honestly we’ve gotten a couple lucky misplays by the Tampa. Gotta find a way to grind this out now. Rays are scrappy

The only excuse I can give Mendoza is that they wanted to get 2 or 3 innings since he’s taking Senga’s start in Atlanta. He gave him exactly .1 of an inning and helped make a 5-1 lead into a 7-5 deficit. I am now afraid of watching Blackburn trying to get the Braves out in Atlanta. Oh, brother.

Not gonna complain but horrible loss tonight. How many left on a joke. Mauricio Baty Jett Williams Sproat Megill if that’s price for Skenes you drive them down I80 now!!

The thing is Pittsburgh is 14 games under .500 with Skenes pitching Cy Young level. They are awful and their only 2 big contracts are awful now. They are screwed for a few years unless they sell off.

He’s not a big financial commitment for another 4.5 seasons. He makes peanuts the next two years and then has 3 years of arbitration.
