New York Mets 2025 Season

Vientos needs protection. His range of outcomes as essentially as second year player are as wide as anyone in baseball. Slot him #2 in front of Soto and Alonso and he will hit .270 with 30-35 homers. He crushes fastballs and nobody will play with him with Soto and Alonso waiting.

It also lets Soto get more RBI chances. It may take a little protection away from Alonso, but Alonso's floor is substantially higher than Vientos' this year.

Baty is getting awfully close to his last chance. I've really been pulling for the kid, but he's got like 2 weeks.
Moving Vientos up is a good suggestion. I prefer Soto in the threes spot and Alonso is the more experienced player and they can move around who hits fifth based on who is playing well.

Met game moved from night game to 4:10 start due to the cold weather.

Shows how fan friendly Cohen is. The Wilpons would never do this and lose an evening gate.

Cohen taking care of SJU by moving the game up. Easier to get Zuby stretched out and less chance of injury with the warmer weather.

Now if Cohen wants to throw some spare change in the NIL kitty, we are all for it.

Mets now 7-3. Very nice. The pitching really can’t do much better. I have faith that the offense will pick up significantly when the pitching levels off. Really not much to bitch about.

As much as I was crushed when DeGrom went to Texas, I've pretty much bought into the philosophy that paying for an ace is a bad investment.
The thinking in baseball is changing for sure. Of course, not sure I buy in as much when it comes to the “playoffs”. Sure would have been nice to have a top flight Starter during that Dodger series.

I'm on board with the no-aces thing.

I think deGrom knew his health was bad and that it was unlikely he'd ever be the same ace when he left. Maybe that's naive, but I don't think he wanted to be remembered here as the guy who was collecting a massive check while not playing like Wright was at the end of his contract.

A late season rental may be the answer.

All for patience and happy Baty is getting some rope. I'd give him the road trip. But think if he doesn't pick it up, he may be flying to Syracuse instead of New York at the end of it. Guy is completely lost at the plate.
