New York Mets 2025 Season

Give it a week…
just read this blurb from The Athletic:
“Brett Baty’s production is one of the main reasons why the Mets feel comfortable with what they have at third base. Mets officials view him as above-average defensively. Offensively, he carried a 108 OPS+ (100 is league average) into Tuesday’s game. Since the Mets recalled him on May 7 (197 plate appearances), Baty owns a .765 OPS. In that same span, Baty’s figure is better than Pete Alonso’s (.749) and Francisco Lindor’s (.713).”

Couple that with his defense…

The thing with Baty, at the beginning of the season, the game simply seemed too fast for him. Especially at the plate.

He looks comfortable at the plate now. we are seeing him pull the ball frequently.

Not remotely a Baty fan but he is certainly earning his due with much better play and at bats.
But a stud? Is Vientos a stud after his year last year? It is consistency over the long haul that makes a “stud”, it is the ability to adapt, dealing with the up’s and downs over the long season and then over several seasons that earns those types of accolades, not getting hot over a relatively short span of ”baseball time”.
But he deserves credit, no question, he is playing better in the field and taking better at bats, getting some timely hits during a period the Mets really need them. Now, if he sustains that, as the pitchers and opposition teams will start to alter the book on him, can he adjust to stay there? That is what makes a “stud”, the long haul.

Stearns has said he isn’t making a move at 3rd. I buy into let Baty play every day. I’m not sure we can get enough of a good upgrade at CF. I think we will see RP help and maybe another low end starter.

Definitely need RP. It’s a good market for it. Other options are to bring up young guys or, though unlikely, get a quality rental like Kelly or Lugo and move Holmes to the bullpen in mid August. He’s already pitched way more innings than any other year and seems to be wearing down. Move him back to starter next year.

Blackburn will be back very soon as your needed low end starter.
And the 3 AAA rookie starters are all ready for the majors:
Tidwell, Sproat & McLean. (Only Tidwell currently on the 40)
I don’t want to give up ANY of our top 8 prospects.
I’m fine with no deadline deal, or just a fringe reliever.

And Megill in a few weeks.

I'd like to get one more really solid bullpen arm, especially another lefty. If we can get under the radar type guys who have options/control (like a Brazoban last year), that would be fantastic. In a perfect world, we'd get an ace but I don't think that is happening.

Still think we need an upgrade in CF. Rolling the dice on a Robert for two backend prospects would be great.

I don’t think anyone wants to trade multiple top 8 prospects unless if it’s something special. However, prospects are just that prospects. We have a chance for a deep run. In addition. We face a NUMBERS game. We have multiples of corner and middle infielders.

It is the job of David Stearns and our front office to figure out who might be Peter Crow Armstrong and who is Jared Kelenic. This team needs bullpen help and cannot stand pat. No we shouldn’t make a crazy trade but c’mon it’s been almost 40 years.

Jose Ramirez is the type of guy I'd empty the farm for. Not sure how many are out there.

Mets only two games out of having the best record in baseball

Crazy because if you surveyed Mets fans over the past three weeks, you'd think we're two games back of the WC
True but it is also fair to point out that we had something like a 3-14 stretch and something like a 12-20 overall stretch.

Good news is that today was a positive day for Lindor and Alonso. Those two with Nimmo and Soto must perform for us to thrive. People love to talk about Baty, Mauricio and Alvarez but let’s be real. The top 4 must be a given.

15 games over .500, 59-44 and we still haven’t put it all together. Very encouraging.

Or as Gman would put it, “we only need 4 more wins to ensure we lose no more than 99 games this year!”
That is some 1977-1981 Mets fan thinking right there. I use to count how many we needed to win to avoid losing 100 as if that meant anything. Most of the time it was a wrap by September. Anything to stay amused.

No one in the league has run away with it and teams have been very streaky. The tigers have stunk and the brewers have been on fire. There might not be a 100 game team this year.

mets fans are a lot of st johns fans

You are too young to be traumatized. It's coming though
Nah I remember Kenny Rogers walk, Carlos Beltran looking, Tom Glavine against Florida, etc

I just see Mendoza/Stearns/Cohen as our Pitino/Kull/Shanley, and feel completely confident. Lol
